Trump’s 100-day approval rating lowest of any president in 70 years

Donald Trump returned to the Oval Office with the strongest poll numbers of his political career, but as he nears his 100th day in office, public opinion has sharply turned against him, according to a new CNN poll conducted by SSRS.

Trump’s approval rating of 41% is the lowest at the 100-day mark for any newly elected president since Dwight Eisenhower, and lower than during his first term.

The second reign of Donald Trump as President of the United States has been full of action. Between sweeping immigration raids, tariff threats that have shaken the global economy, and proposals to turn Gaza into “the Riviera of the Middle East,” among many other decisions, every announcement Trump makes seems to shake things up.

Trump's first 100 days in office

President Donald Trump will soon mark 100 days in office of his second term as the leader of one of the world’s most powerful countries. During these 100 days, there has been no shortage of major shake-ups.

Removal from international organizations

On Trump’s first day back in office, he set the tone for what was ahead. A slew of executive orders, including, once again, removing the United States as a member of international organizations such as the World Health Organization, was first on the agenda.

Attempted coup

The act was considered an attempted coup by a number of experts. The Capitol attack resulted in the deaths of five people and the injury of 174 police officers.

Asylum policies

Orders also included fundamentally changing the nation’s asylum policies and government spending decisions, causing panic among immigrants and public workers.

Immigration and crime

The executive orders certainly aligned with the President’s campaign promises, particularly those that promised an end to environmental protections over economic interests and ‘tough’ positions on both crime and immigration.

Siege on Gaza since election of Hamas

Gaza has been under siege by the Israeli government since 2007, following the democratic election of the Palestinian militant group Hamas, designated a terrorist group by several Western governments.

Uninhabitable by 2020

In fact, in 2018, the United Nations warned the international community that the conditions in Gaza were so dire that it would likely be uninhabitable by the year 2020.

Unconditional support

Instead of following the recommendation of the International Criminal Court to immediately put an end to the aggression, Israel has received unconditional support under the Trump administration. 

Neighboring countries to take in Palestinians

Much to the delight of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump insists that neighboring countries would absorb the Palestinian population as part of their agreements with the US, a clear violation of international law.

Discussions with Putin

Ending the political isolation of Putin, Trump reached out to the Russian leader to engage in diplomatic discussions, largely without the involvement of other stakeholders, such as the European Union.

Perplexity from media

Comments from Vice President JD Vance on Zelenskyy’s appearance, particularly his casual wartime attire, perplexed the international media and inspired no confidence in continued allyship with Ukraine.

Federal funding cuts and threats

Not only did these universities experience federal funding cuts amounting to hundreds of millions of dollars, the Trump administration also threatened a number of other actions against these universities, including removing tax-exempt status, among other measures. Taking over Greenland

In another attempt to take over a foreign land, the Trump administration announced its intention to take over Greenland due to matters of “safety and security.”

Tariff war

Perhaps one of the biggest shake-ups that has emerged is the so-called tariff war that was provoked by Trump announcing a number of tariffs against countries like China, Canada, and Mexico, causing chaos in the global economy. He later went on to announce even more tariffs against a much longer list of countries.
