Here's a list of splash parks in North Jersey to cool down during heat wave

Even with a "significant and dangerous" extreme heat dome pushing temperatures into the high 90s and possibly 100 degrees this week, it's difficult to keep children indoors now that school is out.

Thankfully, there are lots of free outdoor parks and spaces that offer water features and splash parks for children and even adults to cool off.

Here's a list of North Jersey splash pads and parks with water features to visit this week and throughout the summer months:

Bergen County

  • PARAMUS —The splash pad at Van Saun County Park reopened last summer following some renovations. The safety flooring was upgraded and the water sprinklers were fixed with a new control system. Cost: It's free. Hours: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Labor Day. Address: 216 Forest Ave.

  • ELMWOOD PARK —There is a large spray pad in Borough Park in Elmwood Park. The area offers ground sprayers, elevated sprayers, mini dumping buckets and more. The splash pad is fenced in for added safety and is all abilities accessible. Cost: A day pass costs $5 for Elmwood Park residents and $10 for non-residents. Season passes are available for $70 for borough residents and $80 for non-residents. Hours: 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Friday, and noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Address: 500 Mola Blvd.
  • GARFIELD —Jewell Street Spray Park is back. There are colorful sprays from the air and the ground. Register in person at 466 Midland Ave., Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Hours: Monday to Friday from 1 to 6 p.m., and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, the park is closed. Cost: It's $20 for ages 6 and up and $60 per family for season passes. Address: Jewell Street and Lanza Avenue.

  • HACKENSACK — The city has two splash pads: in Polifly Park and Carver Park. Cost: Both are free. Hours: Both will open seven days a week beginning June 30. Until then, the pads are only open on weekends. Hours: 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily until Labor Day. Address: Carver Park 294 Second St., Polifly Park 59 Polifly Rd.
  • FORT LEE — William T. Birch Park has a spray park near the accessible playground. Cost: Free Hours:  8 a.m. until 10 p.m. Address: 8th Street
  • BERGENFIELD — Walter Lubbe Jr. Playground's sprinkler park has about eight to 10 water sprayers. Cost: free Hours: 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Address: New Bridge Road and Brey Lane
  • MAHWAH — Darlington County Park has two water bodies- Darlington Lake for swimming and The Splash Zone, an inflatable obstacle course equipped with a kiddie area and a regular area offering the ultimate water play experience for the entire family. Cost: The Kiddie Splash Zark has a separate entrance fee. Children from in and out of the county pay $7. The regular splash zone charges $15 for in-county residents and $20 for non-county residents. Hours: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Address: 600 Darlington Ave.

Passaic County

  • PASSAIC — Dundee Island Park, a Passaic County-operated park, features a fenced-in spray park with an elevated water sprayer and two dumping buckets for kids to enjoy. Cost: free. Hours: Open 24 hours daily. Address: Veterans Court

  • PASSAIC — The city renovated Third Ward Park's splash pad a few years ago. Cost: Free Hours: 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Address: Splash pad is in the middle of the park, located off Passaic Avenue.
  • PASSAIC — Second Ward Park, also called Christopher Columbus Park, also contains a splash pad. Cost: Free Hours 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Address: Paulison Avenue
  • PASSAIC Colonel Johnson Park also has a splash pad. Cost: Free Hours: 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Address: Harrison Street
  • CLIFTON — Passaic County operates Weasel Brook Park and offers a spray park. Cost: Free. Hours: Sunrise to sunset. Address: 1 Westervelt Place.

  • PATERSON — The city recently concluded a $1.2 million renovation at Barbour Park, which offers a splash pad, a grill for visitors to use for barbecues, a jungle gym and a metal fence that forms a barrier around the park. Cost: Free Hours: Park closes at 10 p.m. Address: 258 Fair St.
  • PATERSON — Anthony Lucas Splash Pad, another transformed park, also offers a splash pad. Cost: free. Hours: Closes at 10 p.m. Address: 196- 236 E 24th St.
  • PATERSON — Roberto Clemente Park also has a splash pad. Cost: Free Hours: until 10 p.m. Address: Market and Carrol streets.
