Capitol Groove is 'the quintessential place to be for music' this weekend

As the final preps were being made on the main stage in Hartford's Bushnell Park for the second year of “The Capitol Groove,” Tom Dubay was already finding a rhythm just a few blocks away on Pratt Street.

Dubay is the owner of the Hartford Flavor Cocktail Parlor; he’s also the president of the Pratt Street Merchants Association.

Dubay said the return of The Capitol Groove is a win for all involved on Pratt Street and beyond.

“Usually, the summer is a little slow and folks are on vacation, but now folks are going to come from the city and the suburbs too, so it [Capitol Groove] makes it great for everyone involved.”

As crews worked to haul sets and hoist lights on the Bushnell Park Stage, Rachel Lenda, the director of tourism for the state of Connecticut, said, “This is the quintessential place to be for music.”

She added that nationally acclaimed acts will take the stage, such as Cake, Thundercat, Bleachers and Khruangbin.

"These types of events, like The Capitol Groove Fest, showcase why Connecticut is a destination," Lenda said. "We are not a 'drive-thru' state, we are a 'drive to' state.”
