The Washington Post ranked the top 50 U.S. airports. Where did Palm Springs land?
The Palm Springs International Airport is climbing the ranks of traveler favorites.
The local airport landed at No. 35 on The Washington Post's 2025 list of the top 50 airports in the country — a list built from feedback by more than 2,300 readers, Yelp reviews and data from more than 450 airports with at least 1,000 passenger departures last year.

The Palm Springs International Airport has plentiful outdoor space and artwork beyond the TSA security checkpoint for passengers to enjoy in Palm Springs, Calif., on September 1, 2022.
What helped PSP earn its wings? Travelers value easy access, clear navigation, good food and shopping, on-time flights and those hard-to-define quirks that give an airport personality.
"Reader nominations and Yelp reviews make it clear that you prefer smaller airports," The Washington Post's reporters noted.
In 2024, roughly 3.2 million travelers flew through the airport. A recent study commissioned by the Palm Springs International Airport found it contributes $2.5 billion to the local economy and supports 18,377 jobs.
Airport officials project annual passenger traffic will more than double by 2042, increasing from about 3 million to 6.4 million per year. The expansion, expected to take roughly 20 years, would transform the airport into a facility that could handle the same amount of passengers as the airports in Ontario and Burbank. Those two airports reported having about 7 million and 6.5 million passengers in 2024.
Palm Springs wasn't the only airport in California to make the cut. Here's where others landed on the Washington Post's list:
- No. 2: Long Beach Airport (LGB)
- No. 12: John Wayne Airport (SNA)
- No. 14: Hollywood Burbank Airport (BUR)
- No. 15: Ontario International Airport (ONT)
- No. 22: San Francisco International Airport (SFO)
- No. 23: Santa Barbara International Airport (SBA)
- No. 25: Charles M. Schultz-Sonoma County Airport (STS)
- No. 45: San José Mineta International Airport (SJC)
