The HBO Harry Potter TV series has shared the first look at the famed fictional wizard as the cast grows ever-bigger.

Filming has officially started on the highly anticipated reboot based on the bestselling children’s fantasy series by J.K. Rowling.

Dominic McLaughlin will portray the titular wizard alongside Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley.

In the new image of Dominic, he is dressed in the iconic Hogwarts school uniform with the recognisable lightning scar on his forehead and circular pair of glasses synonymous with the boy wizard.

The child actor is also holding a clapperboard in hand to mark the start of several months of filming for the first season.

HBO has also announced a slew of new cast members including Rory Wilmot as fellow Gryffindor housemate Neville Longbottom and Harry’s taunting cousin Amos Kitson as Dudley Dursley.

The show has also cast Sherlock star Louise Brealey as Madam Rolanda Hooch and Anton Lesser as Garrick Ollivander.

The latter two will join a star-studded cast of adult actors including John Lithgow, Paapa Essiedu and Nick Frost who will play Professor Dumbledore, Severus Snape and Rubeus Hagrid, respectively.

The show, written and executive produced by Francesca Gardiner, will come out in 2027.

The show’s already announced stars have been subject to immense scrutiny already, especially as Rowling’s own controversial opinions on the trans community have caused backlash from certain groups over the existence of the reboot itself.

In a recent interview, The Crown’s Bertie Carvel declined to discuss the author but did reflect on his future in the show which will likely span several years of these actors’ lives.

He will star as Minister for Magic Cornelius Fudge.

‘I am coming at it with a really open mind. Whether I come back [after the first series] probably depends on what the fans think. I mean, I’ll be furious if it’s not an amazing part,’ he told The Times recently.

Meanwhile, Jason Isaacs who played Lucius Malfoy in the original film series has defended the casting of Paapa (who follows int he footsteps of the late Alan Rickman) after he faced some racist backlash on social media.

‘I’ve seen some people online who are being rude about him. What they’re being is racist,’ he told Collider.

He added that people online will be ‘swallowing their tongues’ when they see the I May Destroy You star on screen.
