J.K. Rowling attends the world premiere of the film "Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore" in London in 2022.

Rowling, who has stirred controversy in recent years for anti-transgender activism, said in an X post that she has "worked closely" with writers of the television series.

"I read the first two episodes of the forthcoming HBO 'Harry Potter' series and they are so, so, so good!" she told followers.

What are people saying about a 'Harry Potter' series?

Many Potterheads are thrilled for the new series, specifically because McLaughlin is playing Harry Potter.

"He looks exactly like the cover art Harry, he is adorable!" wrote one commenter on the HBO Instagram post announcing the series' production. "Goodluck to him and please remember to be kind as he steps into big shoes, he’s got this. "

But others aren't too sure, as some fans have expressed a continued distaste for Rowling's takes on the trans community.

"Won’t support JKR, but I hope the kids do well," another wrote on the HBO post.

And some don't see the point in another adaption of the books, as the first movies did so well.

"I hope y'all know this wasn’t necessary. Y'all didn’t even finish the 'Fantastic Beasts' movies," an Instagram user wrote on the HBO post.

The first film of the "Fantastic Beasts" prequel spin-off film series was released in 2016, starring Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander. Fans have been awaiting a fourth film to release, though no production or release dates have been announced.
