Flames engulf Tomorrowland’s main stage 2 days before festival starts
A massive blaze in Belgium at the site of the Tomorrowland electronic dance music festival has “severely damaged” the renowned main stage, two days before the festival was due to start, organizers said in a statement.
No one was injured during the Wednesday incident, the statement said. The cause of the fire was not mentioned.
Videos posted on social media showed flames and tall plumes of dark smoke billowing from the Orbyz main stage in Boom, the Belgian town that has been home to the annual festival since 2005. Fireworks, part of the stage’s set production, could also be heard going off. Some video even showed smoke visible from the capital, Brussels, over 16 miles away.

Tomorrowland is considered to be the world’s largest electronic dance music festival, bringing together electronic music lovers from over 200 countries. In 2024, more than 400,000 people attended the weekend festival.
The festival, which was scheduled to start Friday, has not been canceled. In their statement, organizers said more updates would be communicated as soon as possible. No other parts of the festival venue, stages or areas were affected, according to their website.
On Thursday morning, festival attendees were seen arriving at DreamVille campsite, the official camp grounds for the weekend, after organizers confirmed the site would be open as planned.

The main stage of the Tomorrowland music festival was destroyed after a fire broke out Wednesday.
But some fire officials are concerned about the stage’s safety. “It is now up to the organization to see what is technically feasible for them in order to possibly resume the festival on that site in one way or another. What remains on the site must be safe enough to receive visitors,” François van den Eynde of the Rivierenland fire district told VRT NWS.
Tomorrowland’s main stage is the centerpiece of the festival, hosting the biggest names of the lineup every year. This year’s headliners include top electronic music DJs and producers such as Martin Garrix, David Guetta and Fisher.
“This wasn’t just a stage. It was a living, breathing world. From the very first sketch on a blank page, to countless hours of conceptual design, artistic collaboration, engineering, crafting, building, every single piece of Orbyz carried part of our soul,” organizers said. “Orbyz,” referring to a hidden community that emerges from beneath melting glaciers, is the theme of this year’s festival.
“We’ll have to see what we can do on the festival grounds itself and how we can get the festival started,” Tomorrowland spokeswoman Debby Wilmsen told Belgium Radio 1’s “De Ochtend” program, according to De Morgen news outlet. “In the coming hours, we’ll need to determine what’s possible on the festival site. It’s too early to say right now.”
