Loud boom heard by many in East Tennessee was not electric-related, City of Alcoa says
ALCOA, Tenn. (WVLT) - Officials from multiple agencies across Blount County are still working to determine what caused a loud boom Tuesday afternoon.
A spokesperson with the Blount County Sheriff’s Office said they, along with Blount County 911, received several calls after the boom was heard at around 1:30 p.m. Additionally, WVLT News received several phone calls and emails from residents in Sevier, Cocke and Knox counties regarding the loud noise.
While thousands of people were without power after the boom, Emily Assenmacher with the City of Alcoa said it was not electric-related. This, after Blount County deputies patrolled the area for blown transformers.

Maryville Police Chief Tony Crisp said no injuries have been reported.
WVLT News reached out to TDOT and Vulcan Materials, and spokespersons for both said neither were blasting at the time the boom was reported.
This is a developing story.
