Detroit Lions sign running back Jabari Small to add backfield depth
The Lions have reportedly signed running back Jabari Small to a deal. The details of the contract are not yet known.
Small rushed for 475 yards over 11 games in his senior season with the Tennessee Volunteers in 2023 before signing with the Tennessee Titans in May of 2024. Small never saw regular-season action on offense with the Titans and was waived on May 14.
As a team, the Lions ranked No. 3 in the NFL in rushing touchdowns (32) and No. 6 in the NFL in rushing yards (2,488) in 2024. Running back Jahmyr Gibbs tied Baltimore's Derrick Henry and Buffalo's James Cook for most rushing touchdowns (16) in 2024, putting up 1,412 rushing yards on 250 carries.

Tennessee Titans running back Jabari Small (31) runs drills on the second day of training camp Thursday, July 25, 2024.
David Montgomery, the other half of the Lions' rushing tandem, put up 775 yards and 12 touchdowns on 185 carries in 2024.
It's unclear where Small would slot in amongst the Lions running backs, with veteran Craig Reynolds and second-year running back Sione Vaki both getting playing time in 2024. Still, he could provide depth or experience as a practice-squad player if needed.
