Though Helen Mirren looks incredible for her age as she marks her milestone 80th birthday, it doesn't mean the topic is up for discussion.

The A-lister actually feels 'insulted' when she hears people offering up the compliment, adding that she considers it to be patronising. Helen doesn't feel as though she's 'ageing gracefully' at all, and would rather focus on doing so with 'fun'.

The MobLand actress made the confession after she turned 80 on Saturday. She told OK! Magazine: 'I am not ageing gracefully at all! I hate that term – it sounds like you have to be elegant and accepting, and, no, I am not.'

'I am ageing with fun, with commitment, but not gracefully. Who cares about graceful?' Helen questioned. 'We just do grow older, there's no way you can escape that. You have to grow up with your own body, your own face and the way it changes.'

She has made peace with the ageing process, explaining: 'It’s not always easy, but it is inevitable. You have to learn to accept it.'

While ageing gracefully isn't top of the priority list for the star, staying healthy and fit certainly is. She confessed that she feels it's 'as important to make the inside of you as healthy as the outside of you'.

To keep on top of her health, the star takes her vitamins with her everywhere, dubbing them 'the most important' item in her beauty bag.

Helen also places a lot of emphasis on what she consumes (and doesn't consume). She avoids smoking and tries to eat nourishing food.

Despite often being dubbed beautiful, the 80-year-old has let go of the concept of trying to be beautiful as she feels like it alienates people. She advises people to 'think of confidence. Think swagger. Enjoy beauty where you see it, absolutely, but let go of it for yourself.'
