Deepti Sadhwani, who plays a popular character in the superhit television show Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, has lost 17 kilograms of weight within six months without following any fad diets or weight loss pills. Deepti’s impressive weight loss transformation, according to her, has been all about determination and following a few simple rules.

Deepti went from 75 kg to 58 kg within half a year, crediting the weight loss to a super healthy diet and simple workout, which she did consistently. "It (losing weight) wasn't easy. There were days I wanted to give up, but I reminded myself that every small step matters. Progress was slow but steady, and that's where the magic lies," Deepti Sadhwani said in an interview with ET Times.

The 34-year-old actor says she followed the much-talked-about elimination diet—an eating plan designed to identify foods that trigger negative reactions in your body. It also involves removing suspected trigger foods and then systematically reintroducing them to pinpoint specific culprits.

According to experts, it helps identify food allergies, intolerances, or other sensitivities that might cause symptoms like digestive issues, skin rashes, or headaches. Deepti revealed she completely cut off sugar, processed foods, and preservatives and adopted a gluten-free diet.

She also did intermittent fasting, following the 16-hour no-eating window. “That became my mantra, along with mindful calorie tracking. My approach was rooted in balance, even allowing for the occasional cheat day,” she said.

Intermittent fasting cycles between periods of eating and voluntary fasting on a regular schedule. While it is not a diet plan, it does not tell you what to eat, but rather when to eat. Common methods include time-restricted eating, where there is a daily eating window, and the 5:2 diet, which involves restricting calories for two non-consecutive days a week.

According to studies, those who follow intermittent fasting can lose from 0.8 to more than 13 per cent of their weight over a short period of time.

Deepti’s balanced workout

While she followed a balanced approach to her food habits, Deepti said she also focused on exercising and working out and the right foods.

"I incorporated aerial yoga, boxing, and swimming into my regimen, emphasising consistency over intensity. This diverse approach not only transformed my physique but also boosted my mental clarity and energy... What kept me going was the vision of becoming the best version of myself, not just for the looks but for my health and happiness," she added.
