‘It’s really unsettling’: Businesses question Lenexa ICE raid
LENEXA, Kan. (KCTV) - Questions from residents and nearby businesses, such as Julie Lopez, who owns Platinum Salon and Spa, still linger.
Witnesses said locations of El Torro Loco, Legends, and Lenexa, right next to Lopez, were raided by ICE.
“It makes me sad for the people. They’re great people. We go there literally every single day. One of us will go there to get something. It’s just it’s scary, it’s weird, it’s creepy, it’s really unsettling,” she said.

Witnesses told KCTV5 that federal immigration enforcement arrested multiple people at Mexican restaurants in the Kansas City area.
El Toro Loco, in both its West Lenexa and KCK Legends locations, was raided on July 30.
An immigration attorney said seven workers were arrested about 11 a.m. at the El Toro Loco restaurant in Kansas City, Kansas. Another “four to five workers were taken into custody” at the Lenexa location, according to Advocates for Immigrant Rights and Reconciliation (AIRR).
Handwritten signs and posters currently line the Lenexa restaurant’s door as community members are demanding answers.
“Couple staff members came in, going to their job, not knowing what had happened,” Lopez said. “That was so sad to see the look on their faces. They had no idea what had happened to their friends, their coworkers.”
