‘Not Good’: Poll Reveals Disapproval Amid Gaza Crisis

Gallup polling has revealed that 60% of Americans now disapprove of Israel’s military campaign in Gaza, up from 45%. The latest data has shown a stark political divide, as just 8% of Democrats and 25% of independents support the campaign, compared to a strong 66% backing from Republicans. Americans' views on the conflict align largely with their party affiliation.

Gallup Senior Editor Megan Brenan said, “We’ve seen this drop in approval since last fall, and it’s really driven by Democrats and independents.” She said, “Republicans are still willing to be in this for the time being.”

Referring to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Brenan added, “This is the first time we’ve seen a majority of Americans, with an unfavorable view of him.”

Support is sharply divided by age: only 10% of adults under 35 approve, compared to 50% of those 55 and older.

Support decline is primarily due to Democrats and independents growing more critical of Israel’s military actions. Trump’s approval has also dropped but has faced less party pressure than former President Joe Biden.

Before leaving the presidential race, Biden had only 40% approval from Democrats on Israeli-Palestinian relations. The latest polls show Republicans are significantly more supportive of Israel than Democrats or independents.

Brenan said, “All of these questions in this poll show us basically the same story, and it’s not a good one for the Israeli government right now.”
