Drowning horror as two US Carnival Cruise passengers die hours apart at new resort

The new Celebration Key resort

Two American tourists lost their lives in separate drowning incidents at Carnival Cruise Line's newly inaugurated private resort, Celebration Key, just hours apart.

The tragedies occurred on Friday (August 15) less than a month after the $600 million Grand Bahama Island resort opened its doors to guests. The first incident involved a 79-year-old man who became unresponsive while snorkeling at the beach around 1.00 PM.

Despite immediate rescue efforts and CPR administered by on-site lifeguards, he was pronounced dead shortly thereafter. Later that afternoon, at approximately 2.30 PM, a 74-year-old woman was found unresponsive in one of the resort's freshwater lagoons. She was also pronounced dead after medical attempts to revive her. It comes as an Amy Bradley cruise ship cameraman reveals 'creepy' moment he discovered final footage.

Both victims were passengers aboard different Carnival ships: the Mardi Gras, which had departed from Port Canaveral, Florida, and the Carnival Elation, which had sailed from Jacksonville, Florida.

The Royal Bahamas Police Force has initiated investigations into both incidents, and autopsies are pending to determine the exact causes of death. Celebration Key, which opened on July 19, is an exclusive destination for Carnival guests.

The resort boasts several attractions, including the world's largest freshwater lagoon, Starfish Lagoon, and an 11,000-square-foot infinity pool at the Pearl Cove Beach Club. It also features the Calypso Lagoon, an adults-only area with the world's largest swim-up bar, and offers activities such as paddleboarding and a variety of dining options.
