The tech giant is the latest brand to latch onto the early 2000s nostalgia, which was the heyday of flip phones and quirky handsets.
Its rivals Samsung and Google have already entered the game with their Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Pixel 10 Pro Fold, which open into a small tablet.

Fans have been buzzing about the upcoming foldable iPhone, although details have been closely guarded until now.
Here is what we know about the rumoured new iPhone release and its features.
What do we know about Apple’s new iPhone release?
The launch date is likely to be sometime in September 2026 and is thought to be part of the iPhone 18 family release.
Tech enthusiasts wanting to get hold of the new phone will have to shell out around £1,474 ($1,999).

It will reportedly feature an almost invisible fold crease, four cameras and Touch ID, an insider claimed.
Apple analyst Mark Gurman told Bloomberg the phone will be shaped in the horizontal book-style rather than vertically like some rivals’ models.
A major change is the move away from Face ID, which iPhone users have become used to. Instead, the foldable phone will be equipped with Touch ID only because the Face ID sensors are too big to fit the thin design, Mr Gurman claimed.
Because of the ultra-thin model, the phone might not have a SIM slot, meaning users will have to get an eSIM.
Two main cameras are thought to be at the back, with one on the front display and another on the inner screen.

When it comes to phones, it’s all about the size – and weight as some modern phones are becoming too chunky to fit into a pocket.
Earlier rumours suggest the folding iPhone will be 4.8mm thick, making it slightly chunkier than the Galazy Z Fold (4.2mm), but still below Google Pixel Fold size (5.2mm).
Analysts suggest the phone could weigh around 240-250 grams, which is slightly more than the Pro Max models.
Fans have been left waiting for Apple’s fold phone for this long because the tech firm has been trying desperately to make the screen crease smaller, analysts say.
Mr Gurman suggested that the tech giant recently made a change on the screen technology to use a screen that leaves a smaller crease and improves touch accuracy.
Now the launch date has been confirmed as September 9, 2025.
The iPhone 17 range is said to boast four different phones – the classic iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, Pro Max and an iPhone 17 Air.
