LIVE – Updated at 15:55

The transfer window is now open again following the start of this summer’s Club World Cup with clubs able to accelerate deals ahead of the new season.

Florian Wirtz is now officially a Liverpool player after agreeing a record £116.5m deal for the German superstar and completing the medical on Friday, while Reds defender Jarell Quansah is set to go the other way in a £35m deal to join Bayern Leverkusen. Liverpool, who have already brought in Jeremie Frimpong, now turn attention to Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez, who looks set to complete his deal next week, while they retain interest in Alexander Isak and Marc Guehi.

Arsenal have agreed to pay above the release fee for Spanish midfielder Martin Zubimendi, while Mikel Arteta has made RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko a priority although talks have stalled somewhat according to Sesko’s agent. Also, the Gunners have submitted an initial offer for another forward option – Sporting’s Viktor Gyokeres – and the Swede has reportedly told friends and family he’ll be moving to Arsenal this summer.

Manchester United, who have secured Matheus Cunha from Wolves for £62.5m, are negotiating with Brentford about Bryan Mbeumo but rumours are flying that Mbeumo has done a shock U-turn and would now prefer a move to Tottenham Hotspur with Thomas Frank taking charges in north London – while Spurs also want Mbeumo’s Bees teammate Yoane Wissa.

John Stones speaks out on his Man City future with clear statement

15:55 , Richard Jolly

John Stones has insisted he wants to stay at Manchester City and hopes to “shut down” any suggestions he will leave this summer.

Manager Pep Guardiola said he wants to trim his squad, which he described as “too long”, and now has seven centre-backs after the January signings of Vitor Reis and Abdukodir Khusanov. And Stones, 31, is about to enter the last year of his contract, having only started six Premier League games in an injury-hit campaign.

'I'm committed to the competition' says Gundogan

15:42 , Mike Jones

Ilkay Gundogan insists he is happy to remain at Manchester City and has “several years” left at the highest level.

Asked if he thought he would be staying, Gundogan said: “I think so, yes. I have a one-year contract and I’m very happy here. I think everyone knows that.

“And I am committed to the competition, and I’m enjoying my football. I still believe that I have several years in me (of being able) to play on the highest level by taking good care of myself. I think I’ve proven that.

“Also in last season I didn’t miss a game, so I’m available. I’m fit. I feel really good and I want to play on the highest level for much longer.”

Arsenal preparing Gyokeres offer?

15:17 , Mike Jones

Foreign media outlet Correio da Manhã say that Arsenal want Sporting’s Viktor Gyokeres to be part of their pre-season tour of Asia despite rumours of a move for the forward easing up.

They claim the Gunners are ‘preparing to make another offer’ for the Sweden international.

Their first offer was said to only be verbal, and worth €55m plus €10m in bonuses.

It was deemed lower than Sporting’s valuation for the striker.

Martinez eager to seal Man United move

15:17 , Mike Jones

Man United may well be in the market for a new goalkeeper with Andre Onana’s inconsistency and Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez is desperate to engineer a move to Old Trafford.

According to The Sun, it is his dream transfer and the Argentina No 1 would be a big upgrade on Onana.

There’s still a long way to go to make a deal happen however.

Norgaard on Arsenal's radar

15:04 , Mike Jones

Arsenal are keeping their options open this transfer window and a new name has emerged as a target - Christian Norgaard.

With a midfield reshuffle on the cards, the 31-year-old Brentford man is on their wanted list according to the Daily Mirror with two years left on his contract.

The Gunners are yet to make an official approach however.

Brentford interested in Damian Duff for assistant role

14:53 , Miguel Delaney

Brentford are interested in bringing Damian Duff in as an assistant to Keith Andrews.

Andrews, who had been part of Thomas Frank's coaching staff since last year is well-regarded within the club and is one of the favourites to take over as manager.

Brentford promoted from within last time they required a new head coach, with Frank having been Dean Smith's assistant.

Talks have not yet begun with Duff but the club are said to be keen on making him a part of the backroom staff.

Antony fee becomes clear

14:53 , Mike Jones

Manchester United reportedly want to receive around €35m if they are to sell forward Antony this summer. That is according to Diario de Sevilla, who suggest Real Betis want to bring the Brazilian back after an impressive loan spell.

However, Betis cannot afford United’s asking price and suggested a co-ownership deal which would involve them paying an initial €20m and buy more later down the line.

That idea was swiftly rejected by the Red Devils, who want the full amount.

The key attribute that explains why Liverpool signed Florian Wirtz – and why he’ll succeed

14:44 , Richard Jolly

There was a time when Liverpool looked to a German prodigy at Bayer Leverkusen as they sought to add another dimension to their attack but didn’t get him.

That time was 2017, the Bundesliga wunderkind was Julian Brandt and the reason was that Jurgen Klopp, initially an advocate of his compatriot, was persuaded to switch his attentions to Mohamed Salah by Michael Edwards and the recruitment team assembled by Fenway Sports Group.

Nuno on new Forest contract

14:32 , Mike Jones

The Nottingham Forest manager said: “I am delighted to be able to continue our journey at this fantastic football club.

“Since we arrived at Forest, we have worked extremely hard to create a special bond between the players, the fans and everyone at the club, which helped us achieve great things last season.

“I would like to thank our owner, Mr Marinakis, for his constant support and backing. It is important to me to share a strong relationship with our ownership and we have thoroughly enjoyed working together ever since I arrived at Forest.

“Now is the time to work harder than ever as we strive for more special memories together.”

The Foxes were relegated on their first season back in the top flight and Sean Dyche is being tipped as the favourite to replace the Dutchman.

Frimpong to fill Alexander-Arnold's 'big shoes'

13:58 , Mike Jones

Jeremie Frimpong has backed himself to fill Trent Alexander-Arnold's "big shoes" at Liverpool.

The Premier League champions signed the 24-yer-old from Bayer Leverkusen whilst Alexander-Arnold left for Real Madrid.

He told Sky Sports: "It’s big shoes but it’s Liverpool, it’s a big team who win trophies for a reason.

“If you play for Liverpool you have to fill in the shoes and perform. I’ve always believed in myself.

“I’m a winner. That’s what I’ll bring."

Tete offered three-year deal

13:46 , Mike Jones

Sky Sports News say that defender Kenny Tete was offered a three-year deal with Fulham but turned it down.

That is due to his desire to move to Everton this summer when his contract at the Cottagers expires at the end of June.

Everton are in discussions to sign Tete - however there is still work to do before a deal is complete.

Liverpool looking to land Guehi

13:22 , Mike Jones

Liverpool are leading the race to sign Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi.

Guehi is out of contract next summer and is expected to move to a bigger club with Palace wanting to cash in on his price tage.

Liverpool are in a strong position having just offloaded Jarell Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen meaning their is space for another quality centre-back in their squad.

Guehi is worried about securing a move which would bring a lot of game time and as such prefers a switch to Liverpool over Arsenal who are also interested in him.

Juventus are reportedly willing to offer Dusan Vlahovic to Manchester United as part of a potential swap deal for Jadon Sancho.

La Gazzetta dello Sport say that Juventus have ‘not let go’ of Sancho since first expressing interest in the England international over a year ago.

That report claims Sancho would be willing to accept a pay cut to facilitate a move to Turin and that he views the Juventus shirt as 'prestigious'.

There is also an indication that both clubs might even explore a swap deal involving Sancho and Vlahovic.

Christensen expected to leave Barca

12:59 , Mike Jones

Former Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen seems set to leave Barcelona.

The Danish centre-back has fallen down the pecking order under manager Hansi Flick who has given the okay to offload him.

Sporting director Deco also said the club’s central defensive pool was “overcrowded”.

For those reasons, Christensen’s departure seems likely this summer.

“We are at the start of the new season, so it's too early there."

11:53 , Lawrence Ostlere

Antoine Semenyo is yet another Bournemouth player being linked with a move away. Man United are one club said to be interested, while Tottenham have made an inquiry about the winger.

Man United switch attention to Kean

09:08 , Lawrence Ostlere

Man United have made initial enquiries for Fiorentina striker Moise Kean, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Keane scored 25 goals last season in 44 games, a sharp turn in fortunes after failing to score in 20 appearances for Juventus last season.

Sancho heading to Juventus?

According to Sky Sports, Juventus are exploring a potential move for Jadon Sancho.

Sancho is expected to leave Man United this summer after spending last season out on loan at Chelsea, who opted to pay a fine to not make the move permanent, and both Juventus and Napoli are interested.

The report states that United are willing to sell the winger for around £25m.

Corriere dello Sport claims the move will only happen if Juve fail in their bid to capture primary target Francisco Conceicao from Porto.

Liverpool-target Guehi considering options

Liverpool could miss out on defensive target Marc Guehi because the defender does not want to take a risk on his playing time next season.

That’s according to the Guardian, which reports that the Crystal Palace centre-back wants to make sure he features at next summer’s World Cup in America, Mexico and Canada.

Guehi is wanted by Newcastle, Tottenham and Liverpool and, with only one year left on his contract, Palace are keen to cash in now rather than lose him for free at the end of the season.

But Guehi is reluctant to make a move now that might jeopardise his England chances, and the competition at Liverpool – where Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate are the starting pair – is a serious consideration.

Arsenal's doubt over Sesko deal

07:51 , Lawrence Ostlere

We start with the news that Arsenal are hesitating over Benjamin Sesko, not only because of RB Leipzig’s lofty price tag, but because of the striker’s wage demands.

The Mirror reports that Sesko would expect to become the club’s highest earner – currently thought to be Kai Havertz – and that Arsenal are strongly considering Viktor Gyokeres as a back-up option.

The Gunners are already in pole position for Gyokeres, having had a first bid rejected, and the Swedish striker is reported to told friends and family that he prefers the Emirates to Old Trafford as a destination.
