Tottenham captain Son Heung-Min is set to leave north London after a decade with the club, announcing the news in an emotional press conference ahead of the pre-season friendly against Newcastle in his native South Korea. “It was the most difficult decision I have made in my career,” he told reporters, but “I need a new environment to push myself.”
Tottenham are in advanced talks with Bayern Muninch to bring Joao Palhinha back to the Premier League and give the side a midfield boost while Arsenal are aiming to bolster their forward line by signing Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze. Palace want a fee in excess of £60m which is the amount of Eze’s release clause but the Gunners are running out of time to trigger it.
Newcastle United have rejected Liverpool‘s first bid for Alexander Isak as the summer’s biggest transfer saga takes another turn, with manager Eddie Howe saying the situation is “far from ideal”, while Richard Jolly reports that the Reds have decided against making another offer after their £110m bid was rejected. Though Newcastle are trying to tie Isak to a new contract that includes a release clause, he is believed to still be keen on the move.
Meanwhile, Manchester United are hopeful of securing a No.9 and are talking with RB Leipzig over a move for Benjamin Sesko. On the sales front, Jadon Sancho could be set to return to Borussia Dortmund and United are in talks with Chelsea and Aston Villa over Alejandro Garnacho.
All the latest updates, rumours and done deals will be covered in the blog below:

Los Angeles FC lead race for Son's signature
13:10 , Flo CliffordMajor League Soccer (MLS) side Los Angeles FC are said to be the frontrunners to sign departing Tottenhman captain Son Heung-Min, who announced he would leave the club this summer.
Speaking in an emotional press conference in his native South Korea, Son said, “I need a new environment to push myself. I need a little bit of change – 10 years is a long time.
“I came to north London as a kid, 23 years old, such a young age. I leave the club as a grown man, a very proud man.
“I want to say thanks to all the Spurs fans for giving me so much love. I hope the goodbye is also good timing and this is the right time to make that decision. I hope everyone can accept and respect that.”
Newcastle to look at Watkins & Wissa if Isak leaves
12:50 , Flo CliffordNewcastle will look at Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins if given encouragement that a deal can be done, according to the Daily Mail.
Watkins would be available for around £60m, though Newcastle would likely try and reduce that fee.
While the signing could act as a replacement for Alexander Isak, the club are also still targeting Brentford forward Yoane Wissa, who is reportedly valued at £50m too.

Wolves sign AZ Alkmaar's David Wolfe
12:30 , Flo CliffordWolves have signed Norwegian international David Moller Wolfe from AZ Alkmaar on a five-year deal.
The left-wing back will reunite with international teammate Jorgen Strand Larsen at Wolves.
He registered three goals and eight assists for the Dutch side last season.
Eddie Howe admits Alexander Isak transfer saga 'far from ideal'
12:10 , Flo CliffordEddie Howe admits the Alexander Isak situation is “far from ideal” but still hopes to see the unsettled star back in a Newcastle shirt after confirming the club rejected an offer from Liverpool.
“I think from my situation, I am very much removed from everything that is happening back home,” he said on the ongoing transfer saga.
“I was made aware there was a bid yesterday. That bid was turned down before I heard about it.
“There are people back in England dealing with the situation. I really don’t know what is going to happen next, but from our perspective, we still support Alex in every way, and my wish is still that we see him in a Newcastle shirt again.”
Howe admitted that he only knew Isak was training at Real Sociedad’s facilities through media reports.
“I know where he is through the media, so I think from that perspective it’s difficult for me to go into any detail,” he said.
“The situation is far from ideal. It is quite complex. I think that is all I have got to say.”

Burnley in advanced talks to sign Armando Broja
11:50 , Flo CliffordPA reports that recently-promoted Burnley are in advance talks to sign Chelsea’s Armando Broja, with the 23-year-old reportedly keen to sign for the Clarets.
The deal is worth in the region of £20m, PA says, for a five-year deal.
Broja spent last season on loan at Everton but endured an injury-hampered campaign and the Toffees opted not to make the move permanent.

James Milner to wear number 20 at Brighton in memory of Diogo Jota
11:30 , Flo CliffordJames Milner will wear the number 20 shirt at Brighton this season in memory of the late Diogo Jota, describing his former Liverpool team-mate as a “great friend”.
The Portuguese forward died aged 28 last month in a car crash, alongside his brother Andre Silva, just weeks after helping Liverpool clinch Premier League title glory.
Liverpool have retired the number 20 jersey worn by Jota in his five seasons at Anfield, three of them alongside Milner before the veteran England midfielder moved to Brighton in the summer of 2023.
“Once I heard Carlos was looking to change his number and 20 was available, I wanted to do it as a mark of respect and pay tribute to Diogo Jota,” Milner said on Brighton’s X channel.
Tottenham secure loan move for Bayern Munich midfielder Joao Palhinha
11:10 , Flo CliffordThe Guardian reports that Tottenham have agreed to sign Joao Palhinha on loan from Bayern Munich, with an option to make the move permanent for £27m.
The paper also reports that the north London side will pay a loan fee of £4.3m and cover the Portuguese’s wages in their entirety.
Palhinha joined Bayern from Fulham last summer in a deal worth up to £47.4million, but endured a difficult debut campaign in Germany.
The Portugal midfielder struggled with injury problems and only made six starts in the Bundesliga when fit under Bayern boss Vincent Kompany, which has opened the door for a temporary move back to London with Tottenham.

Newcastle make bid for Benjamin Sesko
11:00 , Flo CliffordSky Sports News reports that Newcastle have made an offer for RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko.

Luis Diaz reveals Florian Wirtz’s role in decision to leave Liverpool for Bayern Munich
10:50 , Flo CliffordLuis Diaz has opened up on the role Florian Wirtz had in his decision to leave Liverpool, a career move he admits he is “glad” to make.
The Colombian winger bid farewell after three-and-a-half seasons on Merseyside, signing for German champions Bayern Munich for a fee of £65.5m.
Liverpool had rejected a first offer of £58.5m before accepting an improved bid after Bayern maintained their interest and the former Porto player wanted to go.
His departure comes in the midst of a summer spending spree at Anfield, which has seen club-record signing Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike already come through the door as attacking reinforcements.
Liverpool make surprise decision over Alexander Isak pursuit after Newcastle bid rejected
10:34 , Richard JollyLiverpool have decided against making a second bid for Alexander Isak after seeing a £110m offer rejected by Newcastle United.
The Premier League champions believe the swiftness and clarity of Newcastle’s response means it would be futile to up their club record offer for the striker.
Liverpool, who had made an inquiry for the 25-year-old last month, stepped up their interest in the Newcastle top scorer as they looked to take their summer spending up towards £400m.
But the Carabao Cup winners had long maintained their top scorer was not for sale and they immediately rebuffed turned Liverpool’s bid down.
Tottenham captain Son Heung Min to leave club for ‘fresh challenge’
10:12 , Flo CliffordSon has spent the last decade at Spurs and achieved his goal of silverware in May when he helped the Premier League team to Europa League success with a 1-0 victory over Manchester United.
It ended a 17-year trophy drought for the club.
South Korea captain Son explained his decision to target a "fresh challenge" during a press conference in his home country ahead of Tottenham's pre-season friendly with Newcastle on Sunday.
Liverpool make surprise decision over Alexander Isak pursuit after Newcastle bid rejected
07:12 , Chris WilsonThe Premier League champions believe the swiftness and clarity of Newcastle’s response means it would be futile to up their club record offer for the striker.
Liverpool, who had made an inquiry for the 25-year-old last month, stepped up their interest in the Newcastle top scorer as they looked to take their summer spending up towards £400m.
Newcastle reject formal bid from Liverpool for Alexander Isak
07:00 , Chris WilsonThe Sweden international has told the Carabao Cup winners he wants to explore the possibility of a move away from St James’ Park and Liverpool, who had made an inquiry about the 25-year-old last month, and followed it up with a formal bid.
Isak would be expected to command a price of over £100m and more than the club record sum Liverpool have paid for Florian Wirtz this summer.
Newcastle had long maintained that Isak was not for sale, but Liverpool are testing that position and manager Eddie Howe has admitted his top scorer’s future could be out of his hands.
Why Benjamin Sesko is now Man United’s top transfer target
06:30 , Chris WilsonUnited had narrowed down their search for a No 9 to the Slovenian and Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins before deciding to prioritise a move for the 22-year-old.
Sesko is also of interest to Newcastle, who are looking for a centre-forward after missing out on a host of targets and with doubts about the future of Alexander Isak.
Underwhelming Viktor Gyokeres debut shows why Arsenal need him so much
06:00 , Chris WilsonA debut defeat and an outing that was underwhelming but left the sense he was underused may matter little. When it comes to competitive games, Viktor Gyokeres’s Arsenal bow will come at Old Trafford against Manchester United on 17 August. But as he donned their No 14 shirt for the first time in a game, Arsenal at least showed the need for Gyokeres, the forward who scored 97 goals in 102 games for Sporting CP.
The first north London derby staged outside the United Kingdom yielded a 1-0 loss to Tottenham, with Arsenal registering a lone shot on target, which Kai Havertz directed at Guglielmo Vicario. Gyokeres was limited to the last 20 minutes, including stoppage time, as Arsenal were largely toothless. The argument that they needed a specialist goalscorer is scarcely new, but perhaps it was underlined when they spent an initial £55m to acquire one.
The logic behind Liverpool’s decision to sell Luis Diaz
04:00 , Chris WilsonLuis Diaz gave up a shirt worn by some of Liverpool’s previous greats two years ago. He swapped from the No 23, donned by a young Robbie Fowler and then Jamie Carragher, for the more iconic No 7. He offered to personally reimburse fans who had bought the old shirt.
The probability now is that he won’t be making a similar offer. Diaz is giving up the number made prestigious by Kevin Keegan, Kenny Dalglish and Luis Suarez, trading the red shirt of Liverpool for the red of Bayern Munich. He had first asked to leave in 2024. He is getting his wish a year later.
Man City verdict on 100+ charges could be months away with further delays in sight
02:00 , Chris WilsonClub executives and senior football figures believe that the Manchester City financial casecould go until at least October before the initial outcome, as the controversy threatens to complicate another Premier League season. Some club leaders have even speculated that it might arrive in the campaign’s second international break, from 4-18 October, given previous patterns regarding similar cases.
An outcome was expected last season, given that the hearing concluded in early December. It has nevertheless rumbled on into the summer, and means another season faces potential upheaval and drastic change through possible points deductions. Manchester City stridently insist upon their innocence.
Premier League will not be cut to 18 clubs amid calendar tensions, says league chief
Saturday 2 August 2025 00:00 , Chris WilsonThe new season kicks off on 15 August, just three weeks on from Chelsea’s victory over Paris Saint-Germain in the Club World Cup final as tensions continue to boil over the congested football calendar.
The Blues played almost a year of continuous football before the end of their 2024/25 season gave them a long-awaited reprieve, but will have to do it all over again with 11 months of competitive action culminating back in the United States for the World Cup - the final of which takes place on 19 July in New Jersey.
Man United transfer news: Benjamin Sesko, Ollie Watkins, Corentin Tolisso and more
Friday 1 August 2025 23:00 , Chris WilsonManchester United face a crucial summer as Ruben Amorim finally gets the chance to shape his squad and transform his failing team into contenders at the top end of the table.
It shouldn’t be forgotten that Amorim initially rebuffed United’s approach following the sacking of Erik ten Hag, and perhaps he was wise to try and delay the move, because what followed was a disastrous campaign cuminating in the 1-0 loss to Tottenham in the Europa League final.
The release of the Premier League fixtures shows a difficult start for United, with an opening game agasint Arsenal and fixtures against Manchester City and Chelsea within their first five matches of 2025/26, and the manager’s future could be called into question early should his side struggle.
United got some early business done with the signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolves in a £62.5m deal before completing a move for Brentford star Bryon Mbeumo, but co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has made clear that the money pot is not deep.
Offloading high-wage players such as Jadon Sancho and Alejandro Garnacho seems key to funding the revolution, with a lack of movement causing frustration among fans as United lag behind their rivals.
Here’s everything you need to know about Manchester United’s summer transfer plans.
Arsenal transfer news: Eberechi Eze, Rodrygo, Ollie Watkins and more
Friday 1 August 2025 22:00 , Chris WilsonArsenal are setting in motion the first steps of a productive summer as they look to buck their trend of second-place finishes next term.
It was once again a case of close but not close enough for Mikel Arteta’s side in 2024/25. Finishing second fiddle to the Premier Leaguechampions for a third successive season, the Gunners endured another trophyless campaign after their Champions League push fell at the hands of eventual winners PSG.
A key reason for their failure to achieve was an attacking injury crisis that forced Mikel Merino to take up a role of makeshift number nine, and despite their undeniable quality in the starting XI, Arsenal’s depth is far from good enough for a team hopeful of major titles.
And with numerous players already on the chopping block, Arteta has promised a “big” summer of recruitment at the Emirates.
With the transfer window having re-opened on 16 June, a striker was top of the club’s shopping list, and they’ve finally got their man after completing a move for Viktor Gyokeres.
Elsewhere, deals for midfielders and defenders are being pursued, with Noni Madueke putting pen to paper and Eberechi Eze being considered.
New sporting director Andrea Berta is leading the club’s transfer dealings, and Arsenal will be hoping he can replicate his Atleti exploits in London as Arteta looks to lead the club back to the Premier League pinnacle for the first time since 2006.
Here’s everything you need to know about Arsenal’s summer transfer plans.
Liverpool transfer news: Alexander Isak, Rodrygo, Jean-Philippe Mateta and more
Friday 1 August 2025 21:30 , Chris WilsonArne Slot orchestrated a stunning debut campaign at Anfield, inheriting a stacked squad from Jurgen Klopp before taking English football by storm to seal a record-equalling 20th top-flight crown for the club.
The summer months of 2024 hardly shaped the season that followed for Liverpool, and Slot has already proven that he doesn’t require overwhelming transfer activity to be successful. Last summer, he saw just two arrivals come through the door in the form of Giorgi Mamardashvili (who was immediately loaned back toValencia) and Federico Chiesa, who played a total of just 104 minutes in the Premier League.
But with Trent Alexander-Arnold heading for the exit and a Premier League title to defend, Richard Hughes and Michael Edwards are expected to engage in a substantial recruitment drive over the coming months.
And the signs are extremely promising for Reds fans, with Jeremy Frimpong having signed from Bayer Leverkusen before Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez and Hugo Ekitike followed through the door.
Here’s everything you need to know about Liverpool’s summer transfer plans.
What FA statement really tells us about Lucas Paqueta’s ‘nightmare’ betting case
Friday 1 August 2025 21:00 , Chris WilsonThe headline rather downplayed the significance of the news. “Lucas Paqueta update” was found on the FA website, a story ranked below “New clubs ready for FA Cup debuts”. Update? It could have been the end, given the existential threat to the Brazilian’s career. Indeed, until news broke last Friday that he was likely to be cleared, the expectation was that a lengthy – perhaps even lifetime – ban beckoned.
The FA’s language was rather dry; it was also different to Paqueta’s. The governing body described the allegations – that the West Ham midfielder had got booked deliberately in four different games, in instances of spot-fixing to influence the betting markets – as “not proven” rather than declaring him not guilty. They also said the regulatory commission had proved two breaches of Rule F3, relating to a failure to answer questions and provide information. A punishment will be determined in the future.
Liverpool unveil new home shirt after champions switch from Nike to adidas
Friday 1 August 2025 20:30 , Chris WilsonLiverpool have unveiled their first adidas shirts as part of a new multi-year kit deal with the German athletic apparel giants.
The Premier League champions replaced a previous deal with manufacturer Nike, penning terms with adidas in March this year.
The Reds previously wore adidas kits between 1985 to 1996, and then again between 2006 and 2012, the partnership has seen the team win three top-flight domestic league titles and three FA Cup wins.
Arsenal know Eze release clause deadline
Friday 1 August 2025 20:00 , Chris WilsonArsenal know Eze release clause deadline
This rumour feels very similar to Arsenal’s failed pursuit of Benjamin Sesko.
The Gunners have a price in mind and will not go past it. What that price is cannot be said but it seems to be lower than the £60m release clause Crystal Palace are waiting to be triggered.
The Gunners are in no hurry having already strengthened their forward line with Viktor Gyokeres and Noni Madueke.
For his part, Eze is said to be keen on the move and has told his agents, who are in contact with Arsenal, that he is tempted by the opportunity.
Eze’s release clause expires before the start of the season on August 16, though it is believed Palace will keep their price the same after the expiry deadline passes.
Everton eye Tyler Dibling as David Moyes targets six more signings
Friday 1 August 2025 19:30 , Chris WilsonThe Merseyside club have reportedly had a £27m bid for the teenager rejected by the relegated club.
Moyes wants six more signings as he looks to bolster Everton’s slender squad by the end of the transfer window.
Newcastle reject formal bid from Liverpool for Alexander Isak
Friday 1 August 2025 19:00 , Chris WilsonThe Sweden international has told the Carabao Cup winners he wants to explore the possibility of a move away from St James’ Park and Liverpool, who had made an inquiry about the 25-year-old last month, and followed it up with a formal bid.
Newcastle United transfer news: Benjamin Sesko, Yoane Wissa, Aaron Ramsdale and more
Friday 1 August 2025 18:45 , Chris WilsonHaving ended their trophy drought with Carabao Cup success last season, Newcastle United now have work to do in the transfer market.
Boss Eddie Howe has made it known that he is looking to work fast this summer, seemingly not wanting to repeat the sort of saga that saw Marc Guehi remain at Crystal Palace despite strong interest last summer.
The Saudi-backed club were without any major recruits over the past two seasons due to PSR rules, but started the summer with a big move for Anthony Elanga – with the Nottingham Forest winger joining in a deal worth £55m – and are set to make more notable additions as they continue a pursuit of Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike.
Newcastle to look at Watkins & Wissa if Isak leaves
Friday 1 August 2025 18:30 , Chris WilsonNewcastle will look at Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins if given encouragement that a deal can be done, according to the Daily Mail.
Watkins would be available for around £60m, though Newcastle would likely try and reduce that fee.
While the signing could act as a replacement for Alexander Isak, the club are also still targeting Brentford forward Yoane Wissa, who is reportedly valued at £50m too.
United 'lead race' for Donnarumma and eye Pope
Friday 1 August 2025 18:17 , Mike JonesThere are mixed reports on Manchester United’s hunt for a goalkeeper this morning.
Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport says United have moved into pole position to sign PSG’s Gianluigi Donnarumma after initial contact was made with the club.
But elsewhere it has been reported by TalkSport that United are considering moving for Newcastle’s Nick Pope, and that the club are reluctant to get dragged into a bidding war with Chelsea, City and others over Donnarumma.
Everton plot shock move for Man City forward Jack Grealish
Friday 1 August 2025 18:03 , Mike JonesEverton are aiming to secure a loan deal for Jack Grealish, although any negotiation depends on whether Manchester City will accept a "deluxe" temporary agreement or push for a permanent sale.
The 29-year-old has been frozen out of Pep Guardiola's squad, having not been taken to the Club World Cup, and is free to look at other options.

West Ham bid for Botafogo 'keeper
Friday 1 August 2025 17:48 , Chris WilsonWest Ham have submitted a bid of €8m for Botafogo goalkeeper John Victor, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Hammers are among a number of clubs interested in the Brazilian, with Man Utd, Galatasaray and Everton all linked in past weeks.
Chelsea transfer news: Xavi Simons, Jorrel Hato, Morgan Rogers, Rodrygo and more
Friday 1 August 2025 17:34 , Chris WilsonThough a successful Club World Cup campaign sees Chelsea return from the USA as world champions, the Blues are not expected to slow down their transfer activity ahead of the new season starting in August.
The club began the summer transfer windows with their usual vigour and have already completed the signings of Jamie Gittens and Liam Delap, while adding Joao Pedro in time for the Brazilian to score in the Club World Cup final against PSG.
Enzo Maresca’s side are preparing for a jaunt into the Champions Leaguenext season after finishing fourth in the English top-flight and winning the Conference League in a busy term.
Some fans will feel the Blues still have work to do in the summer, with a bulking of the squad needed in some areas to provide the quality demanded by Europe’s elite club competition.
There is no shortage of funds at Stamford Bridge, with big-money moves a constant fixture of recent transfer windows, and this summer is set to be no different.
Here’s everything you need to know about Chelsea’s summer transfer plans.
Spurs interested in Kolo Muani
Friday 1 August 2025 17:18 , Chris WilsonTottenham have renewed their interest in signing PSG striker Randal Kolo Muani, having originally been interested in the Frenchman in January.
Kolo Muani eventually moved to Juventus in the summer window but finds himself back at PSG, with the Champions League winners pricing him at around €50m.

Spurs agree loan deal for Palhinha
Friday 1 August 2025 16:36 , Chris WilsonTottenham have agreed a loan deal for Bayern Munich midfielder Joao Palhinha, according to Sky.
The deal will be a loan with an option to buy, with the purchase option set at £27m.
Palhinha joined Bayern Munich from Fulham last summer for a fee worth up to £47.4m, and he has three years remaining on his deal, though Spurs could well decide to purchase him if the loan goes well.
Conflicting reports on Liverpool bids
Friday 1 August 2025 16:25 , Chris WilsonDifferent reports suggest different things regarding a new Liverpool bid for Alexander Isak, with Ben Jacobs reporting that Liverpool will NOT bid for the Sweden striker again as it stands due to the nature of the rejection from Newcastle.
However, reports elsewhere suggest that Liverpool are preparing another bid as we speak, with claims that they may be willing to pay as much as £80m upfront to the Magpies.

Friday 1 August 2025 14:17 , Chris WilsonArne Slot orchestrated a stunning debut campaign at Anfield, inheriting a stacked squad from Jurgen Klopp before taking English football by storm to seal a record-equalling 20th top-flight crown for the club.

"Every time we have to kick the ball, we are kicking the ball when we are more pressed. The ability for him to hold the defender and to connect in the support is helping us a lot to play better. And we are playing better because he is playing better.
"I am really happy with Rasmus. I don't know what is going to happen until the end of the market. The important thing is that the strikers that are here are working really well, are improving, are helping the team and that is the most important thing.”

If they do pursue a deal then it will be difficult to convince Villa to part ways with their man.

Liverpool plot £120m bid for Isak
Friday 1 August 2025 08:00 , Mike JonesWe know that Newcastle are reluctant to sell Alexander Isak and have valued him at £150m. That price seems too high for anyone to pay but what can Liverpool offer to tempt the North East side to sell?
That will be the question at Anfield if they are serious in wanting Isak’s services this season.
A possible plan comes from DaveOCKOP.com who claims Liverpool will pay £60m up front and a further £60m in installments before add ons are included.
Those add ons could rise to £20m which would be a total sum of £140m for Newcastle.

Arsenal know Eze release clause deadline
Friday 1 August 2025 07:31 , Mike JonesThis rumour feels very similar to Arsenal’s failed pursuit of Benjamin Sesko.

Chelsea's interest in Garnacho is long-standing, but there is one main obstacle as regards any potential trade. While the Stamford Bridge hierarchy value Jackson at £80m, they don't want to pay more than £30m for Garnacho.
Manchester United in talks over Sesko
Friday 1 August 2025 07:25 , Mike JonesWe start at Old Trafford where Manchester United have opened talks with RB Leipzig over a move for 22-year-old Benjamin Sesko.
Leipzig have set an asking price of €75m (£64.6m) plus add-ons for Sesko which means it could be an expensive move for United.
They’d be taking a gamble on the youngster who only has experience of the Bundesliga and no doubt the club would want to negotiate that fee.
Leipzig are in a strong position with Sesko having four years to run on his contract and did not budge in negotiations with Arsenal earlier in the window.
United are also interested in Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins but have been told he is not for sale.
