Diogo Jota's widow Rute lays flowers at Anfield as Liverpool makes huge gesture in his memory
Diogo Jota's widow Rute Cardoso went to Anfield this week to witness the tributes and flowers laid by fans following his shock passing at 28.
The footballer and his 25-year-old brother Andre were killed when a tire on their car blew out as they were overtaking in Northern Spain on 3 July, 11 days after he walked down the aisle with his childhood sweetheart Rute.
As she arrived at the stadium, Rute laid flowers at the gates before taking the time to read some of the heartfelt condolences that lined the entryway.

Rute was dressed in a white sundress and shielded her eyes with sunglasses as she read the messages of support.

She was joined by some of Diogo's teammates and friends as she took in the sea of tributes.
Her appearance at the grounds comes as Liverpool announced that it was taking the unprecedented step of retiring Diogo's jersey number.

It's the first time in the club's history that bosses have made a decision to retire a number and a clear reflection of the esteem he was held in.
The number 20 was instrumental in helping the side cinch the Premier League championship, adding six points to their tally.

He was also immensely well-liked by players and fans and was said to have made friends easily
On Sunday, Liverpool will remember Diogo and his brother during their pre-season match against Preston North End with both teams wearing black armbands.
