Newcastle United remain in the headlines due to the interest in striker Alexander Isak. The 25-year-old has been trying to force a move away from the club amid ongoing interest from Liverpool but Newcastle are holding out for a massive fee having rejected Liverpool‘s first bid. Manager Eddie Howe says the situation is “far from ideal”.

Nevertheless the club are searching for a potential replacement and have made a bid fo RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko which was deemed not good enough by the German side. To make matters worse, Manchester United, who are hopeful of securing a No.9 of their own, are willing to match the bid with improved add ons meaning the two clubs will battle it out over the closing days of the window.

Elsewhere, Tottenham captain Son Heung-Min is set to leave north London after a decade with the club, announcing the news in an emotional press conference ahead of the pre-season friendly against Newcastle in his native South Korea while Arsenal are aiming to bolster their forward line by signing Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze. Palace want a fee in excess of £60m which is the amount of Eze’s release clause but the Gunners are running out of time to trigger it.

Arsenal transfer news: Eberechi Eze, Rodrygo, Ollie Watkins and more

18:18 , Chris Wilson

Arsenal are setting in motion the first steps of a productive summer as they look to buck their trend of second-place finishes next term.

It was once again a case of close but not close enough for Mikel Arteta’s side in 2024/25. Finishing second fiddle to the Premier League champions for a third successive season, the Gunners endured another trophyless campaign after their Champions League push fell at the hands of eventual winners PSG.

A key reason for their failure to achieve was an attacking injury crisis that forced Mikel Merino to take up a role of makeshift number nine, and despite their undeniable quality in the starting XI, Arsenal’s depth is far from good enough for a team hopeful of major titles.

And with numerous players already on the chopping block, Arteta has promised a “big” summer of recruitment at the Emirates.

With the transfer window having re-opened on 16 June, a striker was top of the club’s shopping list, and they’ve finally got their man after completing a move for Viktor Gyokeres.

Elsewhere, deals for midfielders and defenders are being pursued, with Noni Madueke putting pen to paper and Eberechi Eze being considered.

New sporting director Andrea Berta is leading the club’s transfer dealings, and Arsenal will be hoping he can replicate his Atleti exploits in London as Arteta looks to lead the club back to the Premier League pinnacle for the first time since 2006.

Here’s everything you need to know about Arsenal’s summer transfer plans.

Serie A and Saudi Pro League clubs circling for Darwin Nunez

18:03 , Chris Wilson

Neither club has yet bid for the £85m forward but Liverpool would be willing to let him go for the right price after signing Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt for an initial £69m.

Liverpool also made a £110m bid for Alexander Isak, which Newcastle were swift to reject, and the Premier League champions do not currently intend to submit an improved offer.

Antony wants Betis move

17:47 , Chris Wilson

Manchester United winger Antony is still determined to return to Real Betis during this window, reports Sky.

Betis are struggling to gather the funds to make a permanent deal this summer, and Antony has attracted interest from Saudi clubs, though the Brazilian has so far refused their advances.

However, “there is a willingness from all parties to strike a deal” between Utd and the Spanish club.

United are said to value the winger at around £30m, and prefer a sale over a loan.

Arsenal face Eze twist as Spurs register interest

17:17 , Chris Wilson

Arsenal have been busy in the summer transfer window but Mikel Arteta wants a few more players to really build up some squad depth.

The next on the target list is Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze and the Gunners are making slow progress over a potential bid.

However, their hand may be forced by Tottenham who are being rumoured to hold an interest in Eze as well.

An injury to James Maddison on Sunday looks set to keep the midfielder on the sidelines for a while and Spurs will need a new creative players as Son Heung-min is also set to leave the club.

Eze reportedly holds a £68m release clause (which may or may not have expired) and Spurs are being encouraged to trigger it and waste no time securing a midfield replacement.

Dortmund still want Sancho deal

17:01 , Chris Wilson

Borussia Dortmund are still pushing to do a deal for Manchester United forward Jadon Sancho, according to Sky.

Though there has been no formal contact with Man Utd, Dortmund are believed to have “been getting information on the conditions” of a deal, with Utd preferring a permanent deal.

Sky’s information adds that his valuation is likely to be less than the £25m obligation price Chelsea had, with Juventus and Saudi Pro-League clubs having also shown their interest.

Will Liverpool bid again for Alexander Isak?

16:44 , Mike Jones

Liverpool’s first bid for Newcastle striker Alexander Isak was for £110m and landed on Friday with the North East side rejecting it promptly.

The swiftness of their rejection led to The Independent’s Richard Jolly reporting that the Reds had decided against making a second bid with Newcastle’s £150m valuation for Isak deemed too high.

However, Fabrizio Romano believes Liverpool have changed their mind again and are preparing to make a second bid for Isak depending on what Newcastle do in the market.

Newcastle are exploring moves for Benjamin Sesko and Goncalo Ramos while Al-Hilal hold an interest in Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez which could be a boon to help fund a move for Isak.

Liverpool transfer news: Alexander Isak, Rodrygo, Jean-Philippe Mateta and more

16:04 , Chris Wilson

Arne Slot orchestrated a stunning debut campaign at Anfield, inheriting a stacked squad from Jurgen Klopp before taking English football by storm to seal a record-equalling 20th top-flight crown for the club.

The summer months of 2024 hardly shaped the season that followed for Liverpool, and Slot has already proven that he doesn’t require overwhelming transfer activity to be successful. Last summer, he saw just two arrivals come through the door in the form of Giorgi Mamardashvili (who was immediately loaned back toValencia) and Federico Chiesa, who played a total of just 104 minutes in the Premier League.

But with Trent Alexander-Arnold heading for the exit and a Premier League title to defend, Richard Hughes and Michael Edwards are expected to engage in a substantial recruitment drive over the coming months.

And the signs are extremely promising for Reds fans, with Jeremy Frimpong having signed from Bayer Leverkusen before Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez and Hugo Ekitike followed through the door.

Here’s everything you need to know about Liverpool’s summer transfer plans.

Burnley set to sign Ugochukwu

Man United transfer news: Benjamin Sesko, Ollie Watkins, Corentin Tolisso and more

13:53 , Chris Wilson

Manchester United face a crucial summer as Ruben Amorim finally gets the chance to shape his squad and transform his failing team into contenders at the top end of the table.

It shouldn’t be forgotten that Amorim initially rebuffed United’s approach following the sacking of Erik ten Hag, and perhaps he was wise to try and delay the move, because what followed was a disastrous campaign cuminating in the 1-0 loss to Tottenham in the Europa League final.

The release of the Premier League fixtures shows a difficult start for United, with an opening game agasint Arsenal and fixtures against Manchester City and Chelsea within their first five matches of 2025/26, and the manager’s future could be called into question early should his side struggle.

United got some early business done with the signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolves in a £62.5m deal before completing a move for Brentford star Bryon Mbeumo, but co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has made clear that the money pot is not deep.

Offloading high-wage players such as Jadon Sancho and Alejandro Garnacho seems key to funding the revolution, with a lack of movement causing frustration among fans as United lag behind their rivals.

Here’s everything you need to know about Manchester United’s summer transfer plans.

Amorimg on Mbeumo's first outing for Man Utd

08:43 , Mike Jones

Bryan Mbeumo made his first start for Manchester United in a 2-2 draw with Everton during a pre-season friendly in the United States.

Ruben Amorim said: “He played well.

“He needs to understand the position, the movement but the first touch, the way he connected with one touch, opened a lot of space.

“You can see he’s not in the perfect condition physically but he makes a lot of runs and that can stretch a team so everything I was expecting, he delivered.”

Chelsea starlet to leave?

08:35 , Mike Jones

Chelsea youngster, Tyrique George, has decided to leave Chelsea due to interest from RB Leipzig.

George had a successful season last year playing in the Conference League but wants more first team opportunities and feels a move away will provide them.

Leipzig have made an enquiry and Fabrizio Romano says any deal would be separate to Chelsea’s bid for midfielder Xavi Simons who may go the other way.

Arsenal face Eze twist as Spurs register interest

08:32 , Mike Jones

LAFC agree deal for Son

08:28 , Mike Jones

LAFC have reached an agreement with Tottenham to sign Son Heung-min.

The Evening Standard says the deal could be worth £20m which would become the record fee paid by an MLS club surpassing the £16.6m fee paid for Eammanuel Latte Lath by Atlanta United.

The 33-year-old leaves Spurs with 173 goals in 454 appearances and a Europa League winners medal after ending the club’s 17-year trophy drought in his final game.

Villa & Newcastle to fight for Calvert-Lewin?

08:20 , Mike Jones

Reports in the UK suggest that Aston Villa, Newcastle and AC Milan are three clubs considering a move for former Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

The 28-year-old is a free agent after his Everton contract expired, and it is suggested he could be a cost-effective option for both Villa and the Magpies, with both covering only his wages.

Leipzig using Ekitike fee as benchmark?

08:12 , Mike Jones

Reports from Germany suggest that RB Leipzig will use the fee Liverpool paid for Hugo Ekitike as a reference point for their valuation of Benjamin Sesko this summer.

Ekitike completed a £79m move to Liverpool earlier in the window, with Leipzig expected to demand a similar sort of fee for their Slovenian striker.

Newcastle have submitted a bid of €75m (£65.5m) plus €5m (£4.3m) in add-ons, Sky Sports News reported, but that bid was rejected for being too low.

Dortmund 'have reservations' over potential Sancho deal

08:00 , Mike Jones

Borussia Dortmund have some reservations over a potential deal for Jadon Sancho due to the fact that neither Chelsea nor Man Utd see a future for the winger at their clubs.

Sancho has been a success at Dortmund over two spells and is even said to be willing to take a pay cut to re-join the German side.

United would reportedly let him leave for a fee similar to the £25m that Chelsea refused to pay.

Newcastle to look at Watkins & Wissa if Isak leaves

07:48 , Mike Jones

Newcastle will look at Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins if given encouragement that a deal can be done, according to the Daily Mail.

Watkins would be available for around £60m, though Newcastle would likely try and reduce that fee.

While the signing could act as a replacement for Alexander Isak, the club are also still targeting Brentford forward Yoane Wissa, who is reportedly valued at £50m too.

Los Angeles FC lead race for Son's signature

07:41 , Mike Jones

Major League Soccer (MLS) side Los Angeles FC are said to be the frontrunners to sign departing Tottenhman captain Son Heung-Min, who announced he would leave the club this summer.

Speaking in an emotional press conference in his native South Korea, Son said, “I need a new environment to push myself. I need a little bit of change – 10 years is a long time.

“I came to north London as a kid, 23 years old, such a young age. I leave the club as a grown man, a very proud man.

“I want to say thanks to all the Spurs fans for giving me so much love. I hope the goodbye is also good timing and this is the right time to make that decision. I hope everyone can accept and respect that.”

Man Utd battle Newcastle for Benjamin Sesko

07:34 , Mike Jones

Manchester United have upped their interest in RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko but need assurances from the player that he wants to move to Old Trafford.

That is because Newcastle have bid for Sesko, though their offer was turned down, and United are unsure whether the 22-year-old prefers a transfer to Tyneside.

As such United are in a transfer battle with Newcastle as talks between all three clubs are taking place.

Fabrizio Romano says: “We are entering into really important stages. Manchester United made clear to RB Leipzig on Saturday night that they will send a bid for Sesko if the player opens the door. They feel he is still deciding; he hasn’t decided to go to Newcastle. Manchester United made new contact with Leipzig.”

Son has spent the last decade at Spurs and achieved his goal of silverware in May when he helped the Premier League team to Europa League success with a 1-0 victory over Manchester United.

It ended a 17-year trophy drought for the club.

Lookman wants to depart Atalanta over 'broken promises'

07:10 , Flo Clifford

Forward Ademola Lookman said on Sunday he had put in a formal transfer request at Atalanta after facing poor treatment at the Italian club.

England-born Nigeria international Lookman was Atalanta's second-highest scorer in Serie A last season, netting 15 goals. Italian media reports have linked the former Everton, Fulham and Leicester City player with a move to Inter Milan.

Atalanta did not immediately respond to an email requesting comment.

Bannan commits to Wednesday

06:10 , Flo Clifford

Sheffield Wednesday captain Barry Bannan has signed a new contract with the troubled Championship club.

The 35-year-old midfielder, whose previous deal had expired, has committed to the Owls just two days after players and staff at Hillsborough had not received their wages on time for the third successive month.

The club has not disclosed the details of Bannan's new deal.

The Scot said he had received interest from other clubs and that his daughter's reaction to the prospect of ending his decade-long stay with the Owls had helped shape his decision.

Bannan said: "This club is a big part of me and my family, who are with me here today as I'm signing.

"They will always stand by me with whatever decision I make and I've decided to stay.

"With the season getting closer, this last week has been tough because there was interest from elsewhere and I had a lot to think about.

"We had a lot of conversations as a family and when I told my daughter Elsie that I might be leaving she started crying.

"Then last night when I told her I was staying she started crying again. I asked her why and she said they are just happy tears."

Amorim 'really happy' with Hojlund

05:10 , Flo Clifford

Of under pressure forward Rasmus Hojlund, who has been the subject of interest in the transfer market, Ruben Amorim recently said: “The important thing is that people focus on the goals and we suffer a lot because of the lack of goals. But I think not just the goals, but the way he (Hojlund) connects the play.

"Every time we have to kick the ball, we are kicking the ball when we are more pressed. The ability for him to hold the defender and to connect in the support is helping us a lot to play better. And we are playing better because he is playing better.

"I am really happy with Rasmus. I don't know what is going to happen until the end of the market. The important thing is that the strikers that are here are working really well, are improving, are helping the team and that is the most important thing.”

Sesko saga reaches critical decision

04:12 , Flo Clifford

Newcastle have submitted an offer for RB Leipzig, according to reports, and Manchester United are prepared to wait and see what Benjamin Sesko wants.

If Sesko wants to go to Old Trafford, and gives the green light, United will then submit an offer, writes Fabrizio Romano. They are not prepared to enter talks with the club only to be snubbed by the player further down the line.

Liverpool still have eyes for Guehi

Liverpool retain an interest in Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi, though they do not agree with Palace’s valuation for the defender.

The England international is out of contract next summer but Palace currently value him at £40m.

West Ham capture Wilson

02:11 , Flo Clifford

West Ham have signed Callum Wilson on a one-year contract following his release by Newcastle.

The 33-year-old former Bournemouth striker scored 49 goals in 130 appearances in five years for the Magpies.

Wilson said: “I’m excited to be joining a massive football club like West Ham.”

Gyokores debut and what it showed

Monday 4 August 2025 00:11 , Flo Clifford

A debut defeat and an outing that was underwhelming but left the sense he was underused may matter little. When it comes to competitive games, Viktor Gyokeres’s Arsenal bow will come at Old Trafford against Manchester United on 17 August. But as he donned their No 14 shirt for the first time in a game, Arsenal at least showed the need for Gyokeres, the forward who scored 97 goals in 102 games for Sporting CP.

The first north London derby staged outside the United Kingdom yielded a 1-0 loss to Tottenham, with Arsenal registering a lone shot on target, which Kai Havertz directed at Guglielmo Vicario. Gyokeres was limited to the last 20 minutes, including stoppage time, as Arsenal were largely toothless. The argument that they needed a specialist goalscorer is scarcely new, but perhaps it was underlined when they spent an initial £55m to acquire one.

Eddie Howe admits Alexander Isak transfer saga 'far from ideal'

Sunday 3 August 2025 23:09 , Flo Clifford

Eddie Howe admits the Alexander Isak situation is “far from ideal” but still hopes to see the unsettled star back in a Newcastle shirt after confirming the club rejected an offer from Liverpool.

“I think from my situation, I am very much removed from everything that is happening back home,” he said on the ongoing transfer saga.

“I was made aware there was a bid yesterday. That bid was turned down before I heard about it.

“There are people back in England dealing with the situation. I really don’t know what is going to happen next, but from our perspective, we still support Alex in every way, and my wish is still that we see him in a Newcastle shirt again.”

Howe admitted that he only knew Isak was training at Real Sociedad’s facilities through media reports.

“I know where he is through the media, so I think from that perspective it’s difficult for me to go into any detail,” he said.

“The situation is far from ideal. It is quite complex. I think that is all I have got to say.”

Leipzig using Ekitike fee as benchmark?

Sunday 3 August 2025 22:08 , Flo Clifford

Reports from Germany suggest that RB Leipzig will use the fee Liverpool paid for Hugo Ekitike as a reference point for their valuation of Benjamin Sesko this summer.

Ekitike completed a £79m move to Liverpool earlier in the window, with Leipzig expected to demand a similar sort of fee for their Slovenian striker.

Newcastle have submitted a bid of €75m (£65.5m) plus €5m (£4.3m) in add-ons, Sky Sports News suggests.

Son has spent the last decade at Spurs and achieved his goal of silverware in May when he helped the Premier League team to Europa League success with a 1-0 victory over Manchester United.

It ended a 17-year trophy drought for the club.

South Korea captain Son explained his decision to target a "fresh challenge" during a press conference in his home country ahead of Tottenham's pre-season friendly with Newcastle on Sunday.

Liverpool make surprise decision over Alexander Isak pursuit after Newcastle bid rejected

Sunday 3 August 2025 20:07 , Flo Clifford

Liverpool have decided against making a second bid for Alexander Isak after seeing a £110m offer rejected by Newcastle United.

The Premier League champions believe the swiftness and clarity of Newcastle’s response means it would be futile to up their club record offer for the striker.

Liverpool, who had made an inquiry for the 25-year-old last month, stepped up their interest in the Newcastle top scorer as they looked to take their summer spending up towards £400m.

But the Carabao Cup winners had long maintained their top scorer was not for sale and they immediately rebuffed turned Liverpool’s bid down.

Lookman wants to depart Atalanta over 'broken promises'

Sunday 3 August 2025 19:14 , Lawrence Ostlere

Forward Ademola Lookman said on Sunday he had put in a formal transfer request at Atalanta after facing poor treatment at the Italian club.

England-born Nigeria international Lookman was Atalanta's second-highest scorer in Serie A last season, netting 15 goals. Italian media reports have linked the former Everton, Fulham and Leicester City player with a move to Inter Milan.

Atalanta did not immediately respond to an email requesting comment.

Lookman, who joined Atalanta in 2022 on a four-year contract, wrote in a letter shared on social media that he had agreed with the club ownership that he would be allowed to move if there was a fair offer.

"Despite now receiving an offer in alignment to what I believe had been discussed sadly the club are blocking the opportunity for reasons I do not understand," he wrote.

"After many months of broken promises and what I feel has been poor treatment towards me as both a human being and as a professional footballer, sadly I feel I have no choice but to speak out... I can confirm I have now handed in a formal transfer request."

Newcastle signed goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale on a season-long loan deal from relegated Southampton on Saturday.

Newcastle announced the signing on their website with the Premier League club's coach Eddie Howe calling the 27-year-old Ramsdale "an exceptional goalkeeper who adds further quality and international experience to our squad."

The England international was previously No 1 at Arsenal but then lost his place and joined Southampton on a four-year contract. He could not prevent the club going down last season, when he made 30 appearances in the top division.

Ramsdale, who has five caps for England, is looking forward to hearing the support of the home fans as one of their players, rather than as a visiting goalie.

"It's great to be here. I've always loved coming here and I've seen how passionate and loud the fans can be," he said. "I've always loved playing at St. James' Park. I've not always had the greatest of results, but when the fans get behind you, it's some place."

Newcastle begins their Premier League campaign away to Aston Villa on 16 August.

Howe admits the Isak saga is 'not ideal'

Sunday 3 August 2025 16:09 , Lawrence Ostlere

The Magpies rejected a £110million bid for the Sweden international on Friday from Liverpool, who recently beat them to the signing of Eintracht Frankfurt frontman Hugo Ekitike.

The 25-year-old did not travel to Asia for Newcastle’s pre-season tour due to what the club called a “minor thigh injury”, only for talk of his unhappiness to emerge.

Howe said: “I don’t really know what is going to happen next. The situation is far from ideal and it is quite complex.”

Newcastle, meanwhile, have signed Southampton goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale on a season-long loan with an option to buy and reportedly made a £65.4m bid for RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko.

Ademola Lookman hands in transfer request to Atalanta

Sunday 3 August 2025 15:35 , Flo Clifford

Ademola Lookman has handed Atalanta a formal transfer request, announcing the news in a post on Instagram.

Lookman wrote, “I have loved every moment but feel that now, after three wonderful years in Bergamo, it is the right time to move on and experience a new adventure.”

He said that, having received an offer and with the club in agreement that he could move on, that the club “are blocking the opportunity for reasons I do not understand.” The 27-year-old did not go into details who the offer was from and what the terms were.

“As a result and after many months of broken promises and what I feel has been poor treatment towards me as both a human being and as a professional footballer, sadly I feel I have no choice but to speak out for what I believe is right and I feel that enough is enough.

“I can confirm I have now handed in a formal transfer request.”

More bids to come for Tyler Dibling?

Sunday 3 August 2025 14:27 , Lawrence Ostlere

Southampton have already rejected a bid from Everton for hot prospect Tyler Dibling, which was reportedly in the region of £27m.

Saints said earlier this season that they would accept nothing less than £100m for the 19-year-old.

But as they endured a dismal season and a quickest-ever relegation to the Championship, Dibling may search for pastures new and more top-flight football.

West Ham have signed Callum Wilson on a one-year contract following his release by Newcastle.

Liverpool still have eyes for Guehi

Sunday 3 August 2025 11:11 , Lawrence Ostlere

The England international is out of contract next summer but Palace currently value him at £40m.

The logic behind selling Luis Diaz

Sunday 3 August 2025 10:06 , Lawrence Ostlere

Luis Diaz gave up a shirt worn by some of Liverpool’s previous greats two years ago. He swapped from the No 23, donned by a young Robbie Fowler and then Jamie Carragher, for the more iconic No 7. He offered to personally reimburse fans who had bought the old shirt.

The probability now is that he won’t be making a similar offer. Diaz is giving up the number made prestigious by Kevin Keegan, Kenny Dalglish and Luis Suarez, trading the red shirt of Liverpool for the red of Bayern Munich. He had first asked to leave in 2024. He is getting his wish a year later.

Sesko saga reaches critical decision

Sunday 3 August 2025 09:43 , Lawrence Ostlere

Newcastle have submitted an offer for RB Leipzig, according to reports, and Manchester United are prepared to wait and see what Benjamin Sesko wants.

If Sesko wants to go to Old Trafford, and gives the green light, United will then submit an offer, writes Fabrizio Romano. They are not prepared to enter talks with the club only to be snubbed by the player further down the line.

Luis Diaz reveals Florian Wirtz’s role in decision to leave Liverpool for Bayern Munich

Sunday 3 August 2025 08:00 , Flo Clifford

Luis Diaz has opened up on the role Florian Wirtz had in his decision to leave Liverpool, a career move he admits he is “glad” to make.

The Colombian winger bid farewell after three-and-a-half seasons on Merseyside, signing for German champions Bayern Munich for a fee of £65.5m.

Liverpool had rejected a first offer of £58.5m before accepting an improved bid after Bayern maintained their interest and the former Porto player wanted to go.

His departure comes in the midst of a summer spending spree at Anfield, which has seen club-record signing Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike already come through the door as attacking reinforcements.

West Ham make Hermansen approach

Sunday 3 August 2025 07:00 , Flo Clifford

West Ham have made a formal approach to Leicester for goalkeeper Mads Hermansen.

Hermansen made 27 appearances for the Foxes in the Premier League last season, keeping one clean sheet as they suffered relegation to the Championship.

Hermansen’s Leicester contract runs until 2028.

The Hammers need a new goalkeeper after Lukas Fabianksi left the club at the start of the summer when his contract expired.

Liverpool make surprise decision over Alexander Isak pursuit after Newcastle bid rejected

Sunday 3 August 2025 06:00 , Flo Clifford

What Tottenham’s spending spree tells us about new-look Spurs under Thomas Frank

Sunday 3 August 2025 05:00 , Richard Jolly

As Thomas Frank gave his first thoughts on the Tottenham team he has taken over, the temptation was to assume his initial recruitment drive would be focused on the defensive half of his new side.

"They've clearly shown over the last two seasons that the ability to score goals is fantastic,” he said; the numbers showed Tottenham scored as many times in finishing 17th in the Premier League as Chelsea did in coming fourth. “I know the ethos and the history of the club is massive on attacking football, and I think there's so much attacking talent in the squad.”

A month on, there seems to be rather more attacking talent. Frank’s first major signing, albeit after a loan that meant he was part of the squad the Dane inherited, was Mathys Tel. His second – albeit after the £5m acquisition of the young Japanese defender Kota Takei – was Mohammed Kudus.

His third, despite Nottingham Forest’s complaints about Spurs’ approach and suggestions of legal action, could be Morgan Gibbs-White. It would amount to a £150m overhaul to Tottenham’s creative contingent; a £150m upgrade, perhaps. At 20, 24 and 25, they look the shape of Spurs’ future.

What FA statement really tells us about Lucas Paqueta’s ‘nightmare’ betting case

Sunday 3 August 2025 00:00 , Richard Jolly

The headline rather downplayed the significance of the news. “Lucas Paqueta update” was found on the FA website, a story ranked below “New clubs ready for FA Cup debuts”. Update? It could have been the end, given the existential threat to the Brazilian’s career. Indeed, until news broke last Friday that he was likely to be cleared, the expectation was that a lengthy – perhaps even lifetime – ban beckoned.

The FA’s language was rather dry; it was also different to Paqueta’s. The governing body described the allegations – that the West Ham midfielder had got booked deliberately in four different games, in instances of spot-fixing to influence the betting markets – as “not proven” rather than declaring him not guilty. They also said the regulatory commission had proved two breaches of Rule F3, relating to a failure to answer questions and provide information. A punishment will be determined in the future.

Premier League will not be cut to 18 clubs amid calendar tensions, says league chief

Saturday 2 August 2025 23:29 , Flo Clifford

The new season kicks off on 15 August, just three weeks on from Chelsea’s victory over Paris Saint-Germain in the Club World Cup final as tensions continue to boil over the congested football calendar.

The Blues played almost a year of continuous football before the end of their 2024/25 season gave them a long-awaited reprieve, but will have to do it all over again with 11 months of competitive action culminating back in the United States for the World Cup - the final of which takes place on 19 July in New Jersey.

Man City verdict on 100+ charges could be months away with further delays in sight

Saturday 2 August 2025 22:28 , Flo Clifford

Club executives and senior football figures believe that the Manchester City financial casecould go until at least October before the initial outcome, as the controversy threatens to complicate another Premier League season. Some club leaders have even speculated that it might arrive in the campaign’s second international break, from 4-18 October, given previous patterns regarding similar cases.

An outcome was expected last season, given that the hearing concluded in early December. It has nevertheless rumbled on into the summer, and means another season faces potential upheaval and drastic change through possible points deductions. Manchester City stridently insist upon their innocence.

Garnacho keen on Chelsea move

Saturday 2 August 2025 20:30 , Flo Clifford

Alejandro Garnacho wants to join Chelsea this summer, with the Blues still keen on the winger after carrying out background checks.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea was Garnacho’s priority in January and he still wants the move this summer.

However, there could be a difference in each club’s valuation of the player, with Chelsea looking to pay around £30m and Utd valuing him closer to £40m.

More bids to come for Tyler Dibling?

Saturday 2 August 2025 20:12 , Flo Clifford

Southampton have already rejected a bid from Everton for hot prospect Tyler Dibling, which was reportedly in the region of £27m.

Saints said earlier this season that they would accept nothing less than £100m for the 19-year-old.

But as they endured a dismal season and a quickest-ever relegation to the Championship, Dibling may search for pastures new and more top-flight football.
