Benjamin Sesko makes decision over Newcastle United transfer after Manchester United approach

Benjamin Sesko would prefer to join Manchester United ahead of Newcastle this summer, according to reports. United have now stepped up talks to sign Sesko from RB Leipzig as Ruben Amorim is keen to add a new striker to his squad before the start of the new Premier League season (Picture: Reuters)

A move for Ollie Watkins has also been considered by the Red Devils. However, Aston Villa have made it clear to United that they are not entertaining offers for the 29year-old striker they signed from Brentford back in 2020 (Picture: Getty Images)

Newcastle, meanwhile, have also made Sesko their top striker target with Alexander Isak keen to leave St James’ Park in order to join Liverpool. However, Sky Germany report that Sesko’s preference would be to sign for United ahead of Newcastle if he is given the choice (Picture: Getty Images)

The Athletic report that United have made Sesko their ‘priority’ target and contact has been made with RB Leipzig to discuss a deal. United’s director of recruitment, Christopher Vivell, is said to be playing an influential role in the club’s push to sign Sesko as he was at Red Bull Salzburg and RB Leipzig during their deals involving the 22-year-old (Picture: Getty Images)

MailOnline also report that there is ‘a feeling’ inside Newcastle that Sesko would opt join United instead. RB Leipzig are open to selling Sesko this summer after missing out on European football for the upcoming season (Picture: Getty Images)

However, the Bundesliga side want at least £70m for the Slovenia international, who has scored 39 goals in 87 appearances since moving to Germany two years ago. Sesko had also been on Arsenal’s striker shortlist before Mikel Arteta’s side completed their £63m deal to sign Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP last week (Picture: Getty Images)
