$5 million winning scratcher sold at El Dorado County gas station

The winning scratcher was sold at Gas & Go, located on the corner of Lower Main Street and Georgetown Road in Georgetown, according to the California Lottery.

"Most of our big winners have been, like, $1,000," Gas & Go owner Alissa Cimino said in a news release. "This is the biggest winner ever for our our town."

Lottery officials said the winner has not yet come forward, but is expected to claim the prize after a standard claims process that typically takes six to eight weeks.

Gas & Go will receive a $25,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket. Cimino says the bonus will be shared with employees and used for holiday decorations.

"While we won't know who won just yet, we can certainly celebrate right along with Alissa and the Georgetown community," California Lottery spokesperson Carolyn Becker said in a statement. "We want to send a big thank you to all our players who support California public schools every time they play."

Since 1985, California Lottery ticket sales have helped fund public education and paid more than $90 billion in prizes to winners statewide, according to officials.
