Raiders P AJ Cole got his new deal, who could be next up for an extension in Las Vegas?

Monday the Raiders locked up punter AJ Cole on a new four-year extension, making him the highest paid punter in the league. This is the second time this offseason the Raiders have used some of their considerable cap space to make one of their current players the highest paid at his position. The largest portion of that cap money was used to make Maxx Crosby the highest paid non-QB in NFL history. At least for a few days until it was surpassed by Myles Garrett's new deal with the Browns.

Crosby's deal was about making him happy and keeping him around for years to come. Cole's deal was the latter, but it was also because Cole was entering the final year of his previous deal and had no more guaranteed money left. That's the best time for a team to hold onto players they like and would prefer to keep.

Cole was one of several Raiders entering the final year of their deals with no guaranteed money left. But he isn't the only one who is deserving of an extension.

So, who could be next? Let's take a look.

The starting left tackle since his rookie season, Miller is looking for a new long term deal at the age of 29. He reportedly opting out of voluntary workouts early in the offseason, but was on hand for the start of OTA practices. He could just be going about his business and ensuring he doesn't fall behind with the new staff. Or perhaps they gave him some good faith assurances that something would be worked out. Either way, he has been the Raiders best offensive lineman for many years and at a very valuable position, so keeping him around on an extension would be smart.

Entering his third season with the Raiders, he has a void year upcoming. Meyers is a real team guy who is coming off his best season as a pro at the age of 28. He set career highs in both of his seasons in Silver & Black with eight touchdowns in 2023 and surpassing 1000 yards last season. Even if he isn't what one would consider a number one receiver, he is absolutely a solid number two who is willing to do the dirty work to help the team win. If the Raiders don't keep him around now, he will get snatched up next offseason.

Hard to believe Carlson is going on eight years as the Raiders full time kicker. He's been one of the league's better kickers over that time. While he wouldn't be quite worthy of being the highest paid at his position as was the case with Cole, it also wouldn't take a big pay bump to move him into the top three. Currently the highest paid kickers are Harrison Butker ($6.4 million), Jake Elliott ($6 million), and Cameron Dicker ($5.5 million). And with over $30 million still in available cap space, that's an easy amount to absorb.

Long snappers are not highly coveted typically. That is unless they've developed a chemistry with the current kicker and punter as is the case with Bobenmoyer. With Cole secured long term and Carlson possibly upcoming, it would figure to make sense to just complete the kick squad trifecta. He currently makes about $1.3 million. Adding $300K to his annual salary would move him into the top five at his position. That's couch cushion money for an NFL team.
