Giving Las Vegas students a fresh start for upcoming school year
LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — As students across Clark County gear up for a new school year, the spotlight is on a partnership that’s helping kids head back to class with confidence.
8NewsNow takes a look inside Our School Boutique, which is a place for school kids to shop for free clothing.
Sue Trock, who is with Assisting Lives in Las Vegas, said the boutique is a space designed to feel like a real store where under-resourced students can “shop” for everything they need, free of charge. Each student receives five full days’ worth of clothing, including shirts, pants, jackets, socks, underwear, and shoes, as well as essential school supplies.
“It’s all about making sure every child starts the school year with confidence, dignity, and the tools they need to succeed,” Trock said.
Assisting Lives has been serving families in Las Vegas for close to 50 years and has helped more than 172,000 students since opening the School Boutique program in 1978.
Olympia Companies Charitable Foundation is also involved in the back-to-school drive. Brittany Kincaid said donations of notebooks, folders, pens, crayons, and new children’s athletic shoes are needed. Olympia Companies has drop-off locations at the Olympia Management Office, Skye Center, Skye Fitness, and Aspire Coffee House in both the Southern Highlands and Skye Canyon communities.
