Launch recap: Scroll down to review live updates from the Saturday, June 7, liftoff of a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral on the SiriusXM SXM-10 mission.
Original story: Welcome to FLORIDA TODAY Space Team live coverage of the SpaceX SiriusXM satellite launch from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station — where a lightning watch was in effect this evening and the liftoff time has been pushed beyond midnight.
After five delays, SpaceX is now targeting 12:54 a.m. to send up the Maxar Space Systems-built SXM-10 satellite aboard a Falcon 9 rocket from Launch Complex 40.
The Space Force's 45th Weather Squadron forecast called for 85% odds of "go for launch" early during the window, increasing to 95% as the morning progresses. Cumulus clouds and anvil clouds pose the primary meteorological threats "as the West Coast seabreeze becomes the dominant weather trigger," the forecast said.
After ascending along a easterly trajectory, the rocket's first-stage booster will target landing aboard a SpaceX drone ship out at sea. No Central Florida sonic booms are expected.
SpaceX confirms deployment of SXM-10 in orbit
Update 1:30 a.m.: SpaceX just confirmed that the SiriusXM satellite has been deployed.
SpaceX Falcon 9 booster lands on drone ship
Update 1:02 a.m.: The Falcon 9 first-stage booster just landed aboard SpaceX's drone ship A Shortfall of Gravitas in the Atlantic Ocean, completing its eighth mission.
Liftoff!
Update 12:54 a.m.: Liftoff! SpaceX has just launched the Falcon 9 carrying SiriusXM's SXM-10 satellite from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station.
SpaceX Falcon 9 launch coming up
Update 12:47 a.m.: Seven minutes before SpaceX's Falcon 9 lifts off, the countdown appears to be proceeding as planned. Rocket fueling remains well underway at Launch Complex 40.
Following is a list of key remaining countdown milestones. T-minus:
- 7 minutes: Falcon 9 begins engine chill prior to launch.
- 1 minute: Command flight computer begins final prelaunch checks; propellant tank pressurization to flight pressure begins.
- 45 seconds: SpaceX launch director verifies “go for launch.”
- 3 seconds: Engine controller commands engine ignition sequence to start.
- 0 seconds: Falcon 9 liftoff.
SpaceX SiriusXM launch webcast begins
Update 12:43 a.m.: SpaceX's launch webcast is now posted above, right below our countdown clock.
Liftoff is scheduled in 11 minutes from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station.
SpaceX booster to land on drone ship
Update 12:30 a.m.: This early morning mission marks the Falcon 9 first-stage booster’s eighth flight, SpaceX reported.
The booster previously launched Crew-9, RRT-1, Firefly Blue Ghost Mission 1, Fram2 and three Starlink missions.
Following stage separation, crews expect the booster to land on the SpaceX drone ship A Shortfall of Gravitas in the Atlantic Ocean 8 minutes, 21 seconds after liftoff.

A SpaceX Falcon 9 first-stage booster enters Port Canaveral in August 2021 on the SpaceX drone ship A Shortfall of Gravitas.
SpaceX Falcon 9 fueling is now underway
Update 12:21 a.m.: SpaceX just confirmed liftoff will occur at 12:54 a.m., so rocket fueling should now be underway at Launch Complex 40.
That means the SiriusXM satellite mission countdown is locked in to lift off at that time without any delays, or else the launch must be postponed to a later date.
SpaceX launched SiriusXM SXM-9 back in December
Maxar Space Systems built SXM-9 and SXM-10, which should launch shortly, per a 2021 agreement.
SpaceX pushes back launch again, to 12:54 a.m.
Update 11:58 p.m.: SpaceX just announced another 15-minute delay, pushing back the target liftoff time to 12:54 a.m.
SiriusXM satellite arrived at Cape Canaveral last month
Update 11:50 p.m.: In a May 15 tweet, Maxar Space Systems officials shared photos of the SXM-10 satellite and announced that it had successfully arrived at the Cape.
"This latest satellite marks another milestone in our over two-decade partnership with SiriusXM, supporting the continued evolution of their satellite radio network," the tweet said.
SpaceX launch delay #4: New time is 12:39 a.m.
Update 11:37 p.m.: SpaceX's target liftoff time has been moved back 15 more minutes, to 12:39 a.m.
Radar shows clouds dissipating over Cape Canaveral
Update 11:19 p.m.: National Weather Service radar from the Melbourne Orlando International Airport station — which showed thunderstorms and widespread rainfall engulfing Cape Canaveral a couple hours ago — now indicates that the cloud cover is fizzling out.
SpaceX announces third launch delay, to 12:24 a.m.
Update 11:01 p.m.: SpaceX crews are now targeting 12:24 a.m. for liftoff.
SpaceX pushes back launch again, to 11:39 p.m.
Update 10:48 p.m.: SpaceX has delayed tonight's liftoff for a second time. Now, the launch window will open at 11:39 p.m.
SpaceX launch prep underway in Brevard
Update 10:38 p.m.: Brevard County Emergency Management officials have activated the agency's launch operations support team ahead of SpaceX’s upcoming SiriusXM SXM-10 launch.
SpaceX pushes back launch to 11:24 p.m.
Update 10:28 p.m.: SpaceX has announced the launch window will opening at 11:24 p.m., five minutes later than initially planned.
In another update, the company announced the window will close at 3:18 a.m. Saturday.
SpaceX SiriusXM launch to be 48th of year from Space Coast
Update 10:15 p.m.: SpaceX's upcoming Falcon 9 launch will clock in as the 48th orbital rocket launch thus far during 2025 from Florida's Space Coast.

Rain, storms enveloping Cape Canaveral
Update 10 p.m.: Rainy conditions continue prevailing across Cape Canaveral and northern Brevard County — for now. More details from the 45th Weather Squadron's forecast:
"The transition towards a more typical and predictable 'wet season' weather pattern begins (Thursday) as the upper-level disturbance that has been nearly stationary over the Eastern Gulf and Northern Florida this week lifts northeast and away from the area," the forecast said.
"However, a ribbon of enhanced moisture left behind from this system will continue to offer sufficient fuel for rounds of showers and storms through the next several days, mainly favoring the afternoon and evening hours," the forecast said.
Cape Canaveral lightning warnings terminated
Update 9:45 p.m.: The latest from NASA's Kennedy Space Center: "The Phase II lightning warning is terminated for all areas."
Lightning warnings in effect at Cape Canaveral
Update 9:35 p.m.: A Phase II lightning warning remains in effect at Launch Complex 40 until further notice, along with all areas at NASA's neighboring Kennedy Space Center.
"A Phase II advisory is issued when lightning is imminent or occurring within five miles of the designated site. All lightning-sensitive operations are terminated until the Phase II advisory is lifted," per a NASA fact sheet.
