Lake Welch Beach, Tallman Beach, pool club, Lake Sebago Beach, Rockland Lake State Park pool, Bear Mountain State Park pool, High Tor State Park pool

Rockland County won't vie for the region's beach capital — there's no Long Island Sound waterfront, let alone ocean access — but there's a lake beach, where you can swim, and another spot where you can take in Hudson River views.

There are also popular pools at several parks.

Here's a look:

Lake Welch Beach

What can you do there? People swim in the lake, which has a half-mile-long sandy beach, and sits amid the wooded Ramapo Mountains. The park also has fishing, boating, picnicking, hiking, and camping in next-door Beaver Pond Campground. A smaller water body originally, Lake Welch became what it is now after the 1942 completion of a dam.

Swimming hours: Beginning May 24, swimming and wading will be allowed on weekends and holidays only, 10 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. From June 23 to Sept. 1, swimming will be allowed Monday though Friday, from 10 a.m. to 5:45 p.m., and on weekends and holidays, from 9 a.m. to 6:45 p.m.

Prices: Parking is $10 a vehicle.

Tallman Beach, pool club

Address: 2 Tallman Mountain Rd, Sparkill

What can you do there? The facility, which will open on May 24, is known for its large pool and a kiddie pool, as well as bar and grill and a summer concert series. There is a beach area, that offers Hudson River views and relaxation — but no swimming.

Hours: Tallman's hours are listed online as 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekends (including Memorial Day) in late May and early- to mid-June.

Prices: Day passes for children are $10 on weekdays and $15 on weekends; for adults, $15 on weekdays and $20 on weekends.

Closed and not expected to open this year:

Lake Sebago Beach

Hydrilla, an aggressive aquatic invasive species, was found in the lake a few years ago and the lake remains off limits to swimming while the state carries out a multi-year treatment plan that started in June 2023.

Rockland Lake State Park pool

Address: 299 Rockland Lake Road, Valley Cottage.

What can you do there? The facility includes a swimming pool with diving boards, a spray ground and two water slides.

Hours: The park is open dawn to dusk.

Bear Mountain State Park pool

Address: 55 Hessian Drive, Bear Mountain

Swimming season: Anticipated swimming season is: The weekend of June 14-15 only, then on Juneteenth, June 19, and for the summer season, June 21 through Sept. 1.

Hours: Weekday pool hours are 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with last admission at 5 p.m. Weekends are 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., with last admission at 6 p.m. Holidays are 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., with last admission at 6 p.m.

Prices: Parking is $10. Pool admission is $5 — cash only.

High Tor State Park pool

Information on 2025's season at High Tor State Park pool in New City was not immediately available. The state park's website listed dates and hours for 2024 but did not update on 2025.
