Boston University releases statement on Alex Cooper’s allegations
(NewsNation) — Boston University says they have a “zero-tolerance policy for sexual harassment” after “Call Her Daddy” podcast host Alex Cooper’s sexual harassment allegations.
In her recently released documentary, “Call Her Alex,” Cooper talked about her experience at BU, saying that her former women’s soccer coach, Nancy Feldman, sexually harassed her for years. This led the university to release a statement.
“We have a robust system of resources, support and staff dedicated to student wellbeing and a thorough reporting process through our Equal Opportunity Office,” university officials said in a statement. “We encourage members of our community to report any concerns, and we remain committed to fostering a safe and secure campus environment for all.”
‘She made my life a living hell’: Alex Cooper on former coach
“Nancy Feldman was someone I trusted. Someone I believed in. Someone who was supposed to help me grow. Someone who was supposed to protect me. But instead, she made my life a living hell and abused her power over me,” she said.
Cooper said she reported Feldman’s alleged abuse to Drew Marrochello, the athletic director, and she was “turned away and ignored.”
During a Q&A session at the Tribeca Film Festival, where her Hulu docuseries premiered, she said, “The minute I stepped back on that field, I felt so small.”
Alex Cooper says soccer coach started fixating on her
In the documentary, Cooper said that Feldman was “really starting to fixate on me, way more than any other teammate of mine” during her sophomore year of college.
“All based in her wanting to know who I was dating, her making comments about my body and her always wanting to be alone with me,” Cooper said.
Cooper also claimed that Feldman would make her talk about her sex life and get in a car alone with her to drive her to her night class.
Bryan and Laurie Cooper, as well as Cooper herself, said BU athletics didn’t take action when they were given documentation of Feldman’s behavior. Feldman coached women’s soccer at BU from 1995 until she retired in 2022.
“There was no accountability, no investigation, and no justice,” Cooper said in her post.
Cooper said that she shared her story because she found out that “harassment and abuse was still happening on campus today — 10 years later by Nancy Feldman’s successor and my former assistant coach.”
