'Come and try us again, Pueblo:' Fuel & Iron Food Hall celebrates grand reopening

The new owners of the Fuel & Iron Food Hall in downtown Pueblo are encouraging customers to "come and try us again" with new menus designed to fit Pueblo budgets.

Bryan and Jennifer Fahrer took over ownership of the food hall, 400 S. Union Ave., in January, just a little over a month after expanding their Wings on Wheels food truck operation there. At the time, the food hall was in danger of closing and the couple didn't want that to happen.

"The food hall is home to five other businesses and 45 jobs," Bryan Fahrer told the Chieftain. "Where were these businesses going to go? It's super expensive to open a restaurant."

The Fahrer's celebrated the grand reopening of the food hall June 10 with representatives from the Greater Pueblo Chamber, the Latino Chamber, the Pueblo West Chamber and the Southern Colorado Small Business Development Center cheering them on.

"These two have the courage to take over something so big and so massive that means so much to our community," said Catherine O'Grady, coordinator for the Southern Colorado Small Business Development Center.

O'Grady's words brought tears to Jennifer Fahrer's eyes as she thanked those who "support us every day and everyone who works with us — you all mean the whole wide world to us."

Also there to celebrate were Jennifer Fahrer's brother, Stephen Stites, and his wife, Nicole, who help keep the Wings on Wheels food trucks running and their niece, Katelyn Lane, who helps run the food hall Wings outlet.

"We've changed prices and people are liking that. We are dialed in with menus to fit Pueblo's budget," Jennifer Fahrer said.

The bar has quicker service and prices like $4 draft beers and $5 margaritas that are more in line with what Pueblo customers can afford, Bryan Fahrer said.

"The service is better, too," Jennifer Fahrer said, pointing out that customers order their meals and then the food is brought to their tables.

Another new addition is a kids' corner where children are encouraged to visit to play games while they wait for their food. Weekly events like karaoke, trivia contests and bingo have been well received.

Brian Fahrer gets some samples of LaFamila Cochina food. The newest food hall restaurant was serving up chips, salsa, mild and hot green chili and menudo.

The food hall is home to its newest restaurant, La Familia Cocina, which kicked off a soft opening June 11 serving up homemade Mexican food. The food hall also features Union Pizza Co., the Hungry Buffalo, Double D's BBQ Shack, and Custom Cravings Cafe.

Fuel & Iron was the vision of Denver-based commercial real estate developers Nathan Stern and Zach Cytryn who purchased the long-vacant 1915 Holmes Hardware building at 400 S. Union Ave. and gave it a multi-million-dollar makeover. The food hall opened in April 2023 and serves as an incubator for new restaurant concepts.
