'What's the big deal?' Robert De Niro about trans daughter Airyn
Robert De Niro has spoken about his daughter's transition

Robert De Niro has not remained silent about his daughter Airyn De Niro, who publicly came out as transgender in an interview.
He loves all his children

In a statement to People magazine, the 81-year-old actor declared that he supports his daughter's decisions, whatever they may be. "I loved and supported Aaron as my son, and now I love and support Airyn as my daughter. I don't know what the big deal is. I love all my children," De Niro said.

Airyn is one of the twin children De Niro had with model Toukie Smith in 1995. She is one of the actor's seven daughters.
The interview

The 29-year-old had an interview with the American magazine Them, in which she spoke about her transition, how she has handled it, and what it means to live in the public eye.

Media published their story prematurely

The aspiring model told the magazine that paparazzi took photos of her during a visit with her father and published articles in which they even called her "Robert De Niro's son."

'Daring and rebellious'

Airyn called out some of the tabloids, which described her new look as "bold and rebellious" because she had long pink hair and wore heels. However, none of the outlets contacted her for her version of the story. "I actually didn't find out about the Daily Mail thing until like a week after it was posted," she told the magazine.
She started her treatment months ago

The young woman explained that she has identified as a woman since high school. However, it was in November 2024 that she decided to undergo hormone treatment.

Her parents protected her

Airyn shared that she didn't grow up in Hollywood and that her parents were protective of her and her twin brother, Julian.

Finding her own way

Airyn insisted that she didn't go to premieres or business meetings with her father, as he wanted his children to discover their tastes on their own. "My dad was very big on us finding our own sort of path. I would want [success] to happen on my own merit," she asserted.
