Oregon restaurant and chef win 2 awards at 2025 James Beard Foundation Awards

An Oregon restaurant and chef won awards for outstanding bakery and best chef in the Northwest and Pacific June 16 at the 2025 James Beard Foundation Awards ceremony in Chicago.

Oregon restaurants and chefs received 13 nominations in 2025 in categories including best chef in the Northwest and Pacific, outstanding bakery, outstanding chef, outstanding restaurant, outstanding bar and outstanding professional in beverage service.

Here's what to know about the two Oregon winners.

Timothy Wastell, a chef at Antica Terra winery in Amity, won Best Chef: Northwest and Pacific at the 2025 James Beard awards.

"We are overjoyed that Chef Timothy Wastell has been named Best Chef: Northwest & Pacific by the James Beard Foundation," Antica Terra said in a statement. "This recognition is a profound and deeply moving honor."

Timothy Wastell, a chef at the Antica Terra winery in Amity, won Best Chef: Northwest and Pacific at the 2025 James Beard Foundation Awards.

Wastell is the chef behind the Antica Terra winery's tasting menu. Prior to coming to Amity, Wastell worked at various Portland restaurants including Old Salt Marketplace, Firehouse Restaurant and DOC.

Antica Terra attributes Wastell's recognition to the attention and care he gives to his food and team.

"His work is rooted in attention: to the land, the stewards of it, our entire team, and the people gathered at the table," Antica Terra said. "It’s an approach defined not by spectacle, but by care. To see that care acknowledged on a national stage is a joy we are still taking in."

The Antica Terra winery is located at 5100 SE Rice Lane in Amity.

JinJu Patisserie in Portland wins James Beard Outstanding Bakery award

"We feel incredibly honored and super proud to bring the award back to Portland," JinJu Patisserie wrote in an email to the Statesman Journal. "Our city’s unwavering support for our small bakery made this achievement possible and can’t wait to celebrate with our community!"

JinJu Patisserie is locally owned and run by pastry chefs Kyurim “Q” Lee and Jin Caldwell who opened the bakery together in 2019. The pair were born and raised in Seoul, South Korea and met while creating pastries in Las Vegas.

The pair moved to Portland in 2018 to open their bakery and achieve a better work-life balance while serving their community.

In addition to their James Beard Award, they have received praise from the community for pastries like their popular bonbons and chocolate croissants.

JinJu Patisserie is located at 4063 N Williams Ave. in Portland.
