What is an Amazon robotics fulfillment center?

"At Amazon robotics fulfillment centers, employees pick, pack, and ship customers' orders," according to the news release. "This is considered Amazon's 'first-mile' network, meaning it's the first point for a customer's package in the flow of materials within the supply chain before it's passed along to 'middle-mile' centers then a delivery service provider to be dropped off at a customer's doorstep."

Amazon already has several 'non-robotic' facilities here

Daytona Beach has a non-robotic 66,000-square-foot "last-mile" delivery station at opened in September 2019 at 2400 Mason Ave. (just north of Dunn Avenue).

Amazon also operates a 1.4-million-square-foot "first-mile" fulfillment center along the east side of Interstate 4 in Deltona that opened in September 2020.

The e-commerce giant also has a nearly 1 million-square-foot "pre-first-mile" fulfillment center across the street on Normandy Boulevard that is also expected to begin operation this fall.
