Patrick Mahomes' 15 and the Mahomies Foundation announces scholarships for Tyler-area students

Five Tyler-area students will have the opportunity to earn a $10,000 scholarship from Whitehouse native and Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes'  15 and the Mahomies Foundation.

Earlier this month, Mahomes announced that alongside Bold.org he has created the 15 and the Mahomies Foundation Scholarship Program to support outstanding Class of 2025 students in the Kansas City area, the Tyler area and the Lubbock area.

Five students from each of the three areas will receive $10,000 in a scholarship for a total of $150,000 in awards to the Class of 2025.

“Giving back to the communities that have shaped me has always been incredibly important,” Mahomes said. “Through the 15 and the Mahomies Foundation, we want to support the next generation of leaders and difference-makers. These scholarships are about lifting students up and showing them that their dreams are within reach.”

Each of the selected areas were picked based on Mahomes' hometown, his college alma mater and where he calls home now as quarterback for the Chiefs.

Mahomes, who was born in Tyler, lived in Whitehouse and graduated from its high school in 2014. He attended and played football for Texas Tech in Lubbock.

The foundation was founded in 2019 to help improve the lives of children and young adults.

“This scholarship is about honoring Patrick’s journey and empowering students across these three communities with the tools to chase their dreams,” said Tori Meglio, vice president of donors at Bold.org. “We’re proud to partner with Patrick and his 15 and the Mahomies Foundation to support young leaders as they continue their educational and personal growth.”

Those interesting in applying must submit a 300 to 500 word essay that details their personal story, passions, future goals and any significant obstacles they have overcame.
