The airport recently completed the first phase of its FATForward terminal expansion project, a $150 million facelift that includes an upgraded security checkpoint, new dining options and a second upper-level passenger concourse with more gates for both domestic and international flights. It's slated to be completed in the fall.

As of Tuesday, June 24, Southwest Airlines charged $35 to check a bag weighing up to 50 pounds, with additional fees for oversized luggage, according to the airline's website. Checking an additional bag cost $45.

American Airlines had a baggage fee of $35 to $40 for flights between the United States, Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands, depending on whether travelers pay in advance or at the gate. The price for a second checked bag was $45.

For those flying on American Airlines between Canada, Caribbean, Mexico, Central America, and Guyana, the baggage fee was $35, or $45 for a second checked bag.

Drivers waiting to pick up travelers can park for free in the airport's Cell Phone Waiting Area for up to 60 minutes, although they must remain with their vehicles.

Parking rates will increase on Tuesday, July 1, the airport announced via its website.

The hourly rate at the parking garage and two parking lots will increase to $4, with a maximum cost of $17 per day, while economy lot parking will increase to $12 per day.

"Adjusting parking rates is a necessary step to ensure FAT continues to provide a safe, convenient, and an enhanced customer experience for travelers," the airport said.

Hungry? You can grab a drink or a bite to eat at two coffee shops past the security checkpoint at the Fresno airport: Peets Coffee and Starbucks.

The airport is also home to Tap & Pour Gastropub, which serves breakfast and lunch items including burritos, burgers, nachos and chicken wings. Prices range from $10 to $19.

"Tap & Pour is currently a temporary offering that will transition to Mad Duck in the fall," Vikkie Calderon, the Fresno airport's media and public relations officer, told The Bee.

Los Amigos Mexican Restaurant in Fresno plans to open a second location in the shops and dining area of the Fresno airport's new concourse in the fall.

In addition to a seated dining area, the 2,000-square-foot eatery will have a full-service bar with specialty beverages and a panadería serving coffee, fresh-baked pastries and grab-and-go items.

Based on Los Amigos' current menu prices, entrees at the new restaurant will range from $17 to $20, while appetizers will cost $12 to $14. Desserts are priced at $7 each, and drinks cost $2.95 to $3.25 apiece.
