The Gist

  • Mariska Hargitay called her husband Peter Hermann her "home" in a new interview.
  • She appeared on the latest episode of Alex Cooper's podcast "Call Her Daddy."
  • "It's everything that I wanted," Hargitay said of her family.

Mariska Hargitay called her family the "biggest place of success" in her life on the latest episode of "Call Her Daddy." The Law & Order: Special Victims Unit star is on a press tour in support of her documentary My Mom Jayne, which marks her feature directorial debut.

When host Alex Cooper asked Hargitay about her personal definition of success, the actress shared that her family with husband Peter Hermann makes her feel "steady and grateful and loved." Hargitay has three children with Hermann, who she met on the set of SVU.

"I feel so peaceful and present in a new way," she said. "I haven't always. I used to have a lot of anxiety. I'd be scared, and I'm just not anymore."

"I think I had a lot of catastrophic thinking and was waiting for the shoe to drop, which is understandable, losing my mother, and then this thing happening with my father," Hargitay continued.

Her mom, actress Jayne Mansfield, died in a car accident when Hargitay was only 3 years old. She also wasn't raised by her real dad: in My Mom Jayne, Hargitay discovers that she's actually the daughter of Nelson Sardelli, not bodybuilder Mickey Hargitay, who Mansfield was married to when Mariska was born.

"Now I feel steady and grateful and loved," Mariska added. "I think my family is my biggest place of success in my life. It's everything that I wanted. My husband is everything that I wanted."

Mariska and Hermann tied the knot in 2004. They welcomed their first child, August, in 2006, and adopted their son Andrew and daughter Amaya in 2011.

"My husband is my home, my cheerleader, makes me laugh," Mariska said. "He can fix anything, and he's the best dad, and then my kids. I love my kids so much."
