The busy Sheetz store at the intersection of Howe Avenue and Main Street in Cuyahoga Falls is closed, razed and under construction.

The location is just off of state Route 8 near the high-traffic retail plazas that line Howe Avenue. Home Depot, Best Buy, PetSmart and Target dominate the north side of Howe, with retail and a mix of sit-down and fast-food restaurants lining the south.

The Sheetz is one of two being built in Cuyahoga Falls this year, the other on Graham Road at the current site of the Cuyahoga Falls License Bureau. That location has been in the works for more than a year, but has been delayed by the relocation of the license bureau.

Here are five things to know about the new store coming to the old location at 1210 Main St.

In an email, Nick Ruffner, public affairs manager for Sheetz, said the company is constantly updating its stores and products.

"This rebuild will specifically allow Sheetz to offer its customers in Cuyahoga Falls a new look and design for a store that was first opened nearly 24 years (ago)," he said. "We’re excited to bring an upgraded experience to our local customers."

Will the new location be larger?

A little. At 5,478 square feet, it will be about 27 square feet larger than the old store. But it will have new features and amenities, Ruffner said.

Ruffner said the old store was closed on April 27, and construction started the next day.

"All employees from this store were offered other jobs in the company temporarily, while the remodel is underway," he said.

Is the new Sheetz store opening tomorrow?

No. It will take a while to build. Ruffner said the rebuilt location is expected to open in late summer or early fall.

That's roughly in the same time period when the Graham Road location is expected to begin construction.

Will the new Sheetz be as cool as the last one?

Way cooler. Ruffner said the new store will include an "enhanced restaurant-style experience" with additional self-service kiosks and food-ordering points.

It will also have increased seating inside and outside the store, more self-checkout locations and the capability to fuel 12 vehicles at one time.
