2025 NBA free agent rankings: The best players available this summer

An already kind of meh NBA free-agent class in 2025 was only made worse by Kyrie Irving blowing out his knee, as well as by players like Brandon Ingram signing extensions.

Even so, there is some very elite talent at the top of this list, headlined by the likes of LeBron James and James Harden.

An All-Star yet again this season, the bearded superstar has seen his game age like a fine wine. His shot-making isn't quite as efficient as it was in his prime but he remains a high-level scorer and playmaker.

LeBron James has a player option on his deal, and he is fully expected to exercise it to hit free agency. Regardless, that even at 40 years old, James remains one of the best free agents in a class is nuts and speaks to his greatness as a player. He may not be prime James anymore but he’s still an All-NBA-level performer.

A great driver of the ball, a good playmaker and scorer from the midrange and near the bucket. Also, a solid three-point shooter who can even hit some triples off the dribble. After a slow start in Minnesota, he really improved and made the team better in the second half of the year.

Shot-blocking, floor-spacing big man, making him a valuable archetype. Has also improved toughness and consistency, playing a large part in Indiana’s Eastern Conference Finals run last season, and has continued playing at a high level this campaign.

Great playmaker with very good and creative vision. Good rebounder for his position, too. Not the most efficient scorer, though, including with his jumper and around the basket. Makes an off-ball impact on defense, too. Absolutely exploded in the second half of the season for Chicago, which will undoubtedly help his free-agent outlook this summer.

Pulled from head coach Steve Kerr’s rotation at crucial times in 2024-25, it seems very likely his next stop will be somewhere other than Golden State. Has greatly developed his off-the-dribble scoring and shooting, and is an athletic slasher off the ball, but perhaps wants a bigger role than the Warriors are going to offer. Could be a great investment for another team that believes in his development.

Finished second in made three-pointers this past season while shooting 41.6 percent from three. A confident shooter from the outside with a quick release and good rise on his jumper. One of the best shooting specialists in the league right now.

Nice athlete and inconsistent three-point shooter. Makes winning plays and has good feel for the game.

Pure bucket-getter, especially from three and the midrange. Gets very good rise on his jumper and can stop on a dime to get shots off. Not the most efficient player and unclear how impactful his game is to winning, but even so, in an NBA where scoring is so valued, he is a valuable player.

Veteran 7-footer with great shot-blocking skills who also spaces the floor from three. Age isn’t affecting him that much yet.

A story of resilience, he has finally played up to the level many were hopeful he could reach as a first-round pick in the 2019 draft after years of splitting time between the NBA and G League. Can make plays for others and hit some jumpers off the dribble, as well as threes with his feet set. Set to get a big pay increase this summer.

Good scorer for a big man thanks to post-game, spot-up shooting and face-up game. Solid rebounder, too, but not the most impactful defender. One of the better off-the-bench big men in the league.

A very good defender thanks to quickness, length and effort. Can do some scoring, too, especially from beyond the arc as a spot-up shooter but is even more effective as a defender. Has done well to develop his offensive game to make him a good two-way role player.

Small sample size (28 games) needs to be considered, but after getting traded from Dallas to Philadelphia, he put up huge numbers – nearly 22 points per game with over five rebounds and four assists – efficiently, too, shooting almost 47 percent from the floor with the Sixers. That elevation in play could not have come at a better time with him about to hit restricted free agency.

Still an impactful two-way player despite his age who played a huge role in Boston’s semi-recent title run thanks to his shooting and defense. Still a positive on the court. Has said recently he intends to continue playing in the NBA.

Safe point guard with a good assist-to-turnover ratio but didn’t exactly excel in his one-year audition with Suns as a starter due to his lack of defending. That could keep him in the veteran-minimum range this summer. Regardless, an effective, solid backup floor general thanks to passing and shooting ability off the dribble.

Upon being traded from L.A. to Brooklyn, many thought he’d get back to his confident, bucket-getting self. That has not been the case quite just yet, as Russell put up even worse numbers with the Nets than he had with the Lakers. When playing with peak confidence, he can score crafty buckets from three and the midrange.

Tasked with playing more of an off-ball role and allowed to focus his energy on causing havoc defensively and on the glass, he had a solid season in Denver. He’ll still take a few too many errant shots and have a bad turnover here and there, but he’s well-liked by teammates and does create extra possessions with his help defense and rebounding.

Played in all 82 games this season, an impressive feat considering his age and the mileage on his body from such a long career so far. Still putting up solid marks as a passer and can get the occasional bucket from the midrange.

One of the best outside shooters in the league who can even sink shots off the dribble. Underrated playmaker who can run a pick-and-roll effectively, too.

His brief audition in Golden State did not go that well, as after putting up huge numbers in Brooklyn, he lasted just 24 games with the Warriors before being traded again, this time to Detroit. But he’s been solid in his role with the Pistons, contributing as a backup for a feisty team and making a positive impact with his scoring, defense and playmaking.

Has good athleticism and bounce, and should continue to develop the rest of his scoring game, at least considering his early-career trajectory thus far. However, the fact that he’s already 25 could scare some teams from offering him too big of a contract this summer.
