Scottsdale brunch spot to mark 15 years of homestyle cooking
SCOTTSDALE, AZ (AZFamily) — Head west on Greenway Parkway from Scottsdale Road and you’ll find a family-owned and operated breakfast and brunch joint.
Perk Eatery will mark 15 years this December of bringing fresh, homestyle cooking to the Kierland area.

Perk Eatery is located near 64th Street and Greenway Parkway in Scottsdale
The owners grew up in the restaurant business. So, they knew they wanted to open an independent, mom-and-pop style shop when they moved to Arizona from the Midwest.
Co-owner Pauline Martinez says it’s the type of place where kids run into their teachers, and regulars can consistently get good food.

“We’re we run it ourselves and we’re here every day and it’s really important for us to be really active members of our community and to know our clientele. You know, the faces that come in are not just another customer. They’re like family to us and that’s why it’s so important for us to feed them the right way,” Martinez said.
Perk Eatery uses organic food when possible, also supporting local, family-owned farms for their fresh produce and meat.

The menu has remained consistent throughout the years, but they recently decided to eliminate items containing seed oil. Instead, they use avocado oil, olive oil, beef tallow and real butter for cooking.
“It’s just really honing in on the quality of the ingredients that we’re using and that is just of the utmost importance to us because I would not want to feed somebody something that I wouldn’t feed my own family,” Martinez said.
For breakfast, Perk Eatery takes pride in its French toast and pancakes. They’re top-selling items among customers.

Martinez says, “The French toast, we use our own recipe for a challah bread that we have a local bakery make for us. And then our pancakes have been voted best in the Valley for many, many years. And we’re very, very proud of them.”

If a savory breakfast is more your style, try the huevos rancheros with their signature cilantro jalapeno sauce.

Huevos Rancheros is served with a flour tortilla, spicy chorizo, black beans, cheddar cheese, two fried eggs and cilantro jalapeno sauce.
Martinez says, “We originally created it to top our huevos rancheros and then we started serving it on the side with our breakfast burritos and it is an absolute customer favorite.”
They now ship bottles of the homemade sauce nationwide.
For lunch, try “The Mucho Smoocho” for a take on a grilled turkey sandwich. “The Bahama Mama” with chicken on a pita is also popular.
Martinez says they like to have fun naming all their dishes. She says every item has some kind of background meaning, whether it’s just for fun or named after someone in the family.

"The Mucho Smoocho" comes with roasted turkey breast, bacon, tomatoes, cole slaw, Swiss and secret sauce on grilled rye bread. Served with choice of French fries, coleslaw, fruit or cottage cheese.
Whether you’re looking for the classics or something new, Martinez says, “We have a really robust menu with a lot of different classic American dishes, but we also like to throw in a southwest flair, which is a little bit of what we’re known for because it gives you the best of both worlds.”
The restaurant also has a selection of cocktails at its full-service bar.

Perk eatery offers a variety of drinks and full service bar. Popular cocktails include the "Vitamin C Mimosa" with Damrak gin and blood orange syrup, the "Capri Sun" with Caravella Limoncello and Prosecco, or the "Peachy Keen" with Tito's vodka, peach puree, basil and lemonade.
Perk Eatery has also had some national attention, appearing on Guy Fieri’s" Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives.” They just aired a ten-year follow-up since the restaurant’s first feature.
