NFL player from Indy, Tyrone Tracy Jr., empowers kids at local church

INDIANAPOLIS — NFL player and Indianapolis native Tyrone Tracy Jr. returned to his roots Sunday, delivering a heartfelt message of faith, perseverance, and purpose to children gathered at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church.

The New York Giants running back spoke on the power of divine timing at work in his life, “When you are specific about what you want, God will make it happen—and you won’t have no choice but to give God the praise,” Tracy Jr. told the congregation.

The event centered around the screening of Giants Life: Tyrone Tracy Jr., a 24-minute documentary chronicling his journey from local talent to NFL rookie. Following the film, two students were awarded with autographed footballs for correctly answering trivia questions about his story.

During the Q&A, Tracy Jr. shared his favorite scripture John 13:7, which says, “Jesus replied, ‘You do not realize now what I’m doing, but later you will understand.'”

He reflected on how he prayed to God that he would be drafted into the NFL, even in the face of obstacles such as transferring from the University of Iowa to Purdue, and changing positions on the field.

Ultimately, Tracy Jr. encouraged the youth to be disciplined and remain faithful to their craft. “Speak life into yourself,” said Tracy Jr. “I tell myself every day that I’m enough.”
