Williamson County issues disaster declaration amid evacuations, rescues
WILLIAMSON COUNTY (KXAN) – The Williamson County judge issued a local disaster declaration Saturday afternoon. Judge Steven Snell said the declaration is needed to protect the health, safety and welfare of residents.
The Williamson County Office of Emergency Management is coordinating resources. According to a press release from the county, areas in western Williamson County and along the South Fork of the San Gabriel River east of Georgetown have been evacuated, particularly mobile home parks.
The press release said swift water rescue teams have rescued up to 25 people, most from homes. Sixteen people were evacuated from Hope House in Liberty Hill.
The Office of Emergency Management also advised some Georgetown residents to evacuate Saturday morning.

The evacuations would be for residents of mobile home parks along the San Gabriel River east of the city.
According to the office, evacuations would include Riverside, Shady River and Goodwater. Georgetown police also said residents of Two Rivers, San Gabriel, and Waters Edge apartments should evacuate due to the rising river levels.
Williamson County said a Flash Flood Warning was in effect for the western part of the county until 10 a.m. and for the South Fork of the San Gabriel River east of Georgetown through early Sunday afternoon.
Police said additional streets may be closed as rain continues and the river rises.

The Georgetown Police Department said the Austin Avenue bridges have been closed to through traffic and pedestrian traffic until further notice.
“This closure is due to concerns about the number of people stopping on the bridges and the possibility of debris hitting the bridges,” GPD said.
