A guide to San Diego Comic-Con themed food and drinks for 2025

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Restaurants and bars in the Gaslamp Quarter are whipping up some new Comic-Con concoctions as they gear up for the convention, which takes place from Thursday, July 24 to Sunday, July 27.

Whether you are attending Comic-Con or simply just want to enjoy food and drinks inspired by your favorite characters and fandoms, these limited-time offerings will bring some of the excitement outside of the San Diego Convention Center.

Located on the corner of Fifth Avenue and Market Street, barleymash is hosting “Barley’s Blockbuster Weekend,” a tribute to the former video rental store chain, from July 24-27. In addition to themed giveaway totes, membership cards and popcorn buckets, it will feature the following four cocktails inspired by the video store and fan-favorite movies:

  • Make it a Blockbuster night: Angel’s Envy bourbon, Crème de Pêche, fresh lemonade and Red Vine
  • Give Me Sugar Water: Clarified mojito with Bacardi Silver, lime and mint
  • His Dudeness, the Duder, El Duderino: Grey Goose vodka, salted caramel, coffee liqueur and heavy cream
  • Midnight Margaritas: Cazadorez Blanco, coconut, pineapple, lime and black salt rim

The restaurant will also have four special food items available on its menu during Comic-Con weekend only:

  • Krabby Patty Deluxe Sliders: Quarter-pound burger patty, crab cake, American cheese, lettuce, red onions, tomatoes, pickles, mustard and ketchup plus a side of fries
  • Shell Shocked: Pepperoni, pineapple, pickled jalapenos, three cheese blend and roasted tomato sauce on a flatbread
  • La La La Lava, Ch Ch Ch Chicken: Crispy corn chip nachos with jalapeno braised chicken, ghost pepper cheese sauce, refried black beans, sliced Fresno and jalapeno peppers and chili lime crema
  • Bogtrotter’s Defiance: Slice of multi-layered chocolate cake with rich, dark chocolate frosting

Housed on the ninth floor of Hotel Indigo San Diego in the Gaslamp Quarter, Borrego Rooftop Kitchen & Cocktails will have a special menu of drinks each named after a member of the Fantastic Four.

  • The Thing: Mezcal, carrot juice, Nixta corn liqueur and lemon juice over double old-fashioned ice with a Tajín rim
  • Human Torch: Sage and serrano-infused tequila with serrano agave, lime juice and Fever-Tree soda, topped with a chili garnish and half Tajín rim
  • The Invisible Woman: Barr Hill gin, Beefeater gin, Lillet aperitif and Luxardo liqueur
  • Mr. Fantastic: Electric-blue cocktail with gin, lemon, rosemary juniper syrup, blue curaçao and egg white

The Mexican cantina in the Gaslamp Quarter known as El Chingon is featuring a new cocktail inspired by Batman’s most iconic villain, the Joker, just for Comic-Con. The “Madness Like Gravity” cocktail is a vibrant mix of tequila, lime, melon liqueur, agave and Tajín. For an extra $13, it can be served in a goblet with a Tajín rim, candy straw and Mexican paleta (popsicle).

Greystone Prime Steakhouse & Seafood, located at 658 Fifth Avenue, is offering a $50 deal during SDCC. It includes a choice of one entree, one add-on and one drink. People looking to indulge in a nice sit-down dinner after a long day at the convention have the following entree options to choose from:

  • Truffle gnocchi: Ricotta, cream, parmesan reggiano and black truffle
  • Prime New York steak: 21 days dry-aged
  • Linguine al Pesto: sundried tomatoes and pesto
  • Roasted bone-in chicken breast: Pancetta fingerling potatoes, roasted shallots, tomato coulis rosemary and champagne herb a jus
  • Wild Isle’s king salmon: Honey dijon glaze, garlic mashed potatoes and spring vegetables

This Cuban establishment at 548 Fifth Avenue is introducing two cocktails inspired by some of Batman’s nemeses. One pays homage to the DC villain, Bane, whose origin story began in a Caribbean prison, while the second cocktail is a sweet but sinister reference to Poison Ivy.

  • I Broke The Bat: Havana 1920 Rum, lime, Demerara sugar and activated charcoal
  • Poison Ivy: Havana 1920 Rum, fresh lime juice, Cuban mint, sugarcane juice, sugarcane syrup and club soda

Sip on the following limited-edition cocktails that were inspired by fan favorites like “Doctor Who” and the “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.”

  • Regeneration Refresher: Dirty Shirley with Grey Goose vodka, grenadine and Sprite
  • Cowabunga Cooler: Bright-green cocktail with Sipsmith gin, Midori, cucumber, honeydew, lemon and simple syrup
  • Joker’s Jive: Espresso martini featuring Belvedere Vodka, espresso, St. George Espresso Liqueur, Baileys Irish Cream and simple syrup
  • Elven Elixir: St-Germain Elderflower liqueur, rosé wine and Fever-Tree pink grapefruit soda

Located at 345 Sixth Avenue, Meze Greek Fusion will have several pop culture-themed items on its food and drink menus. Batman-themed dishes include the “Two-Face Taquitos” with lettuce, pico de Greco, feta cheese and avo-crema, along with the “Birds of Prey,” crispy meatballs with mint, onion, garlic and cumin. The “Bat Signal,” which features jumbo shrimp pan-seared with garlic, tomato, green onion and feta, is another limited-time option.

Drinks available for Comic-Con weekend at Meze include:

  • The Caped Crusader: Divino Maguey Destilado con Tamarindo y Chiles Mezcal, Aperol, passion fruit, lemon and a Tajín rim
  • The Sidekick: Prohibition Whiskey, Curious Junior Juniper Blackberry, ginger and lemon
  • Pennyworth For Your Thoughts: Prohibition Whiskey or El Chingon Vodka, DropKick espresso concentrate, orgeat and R&D Sarsaparilla Bitter

DC Comics fans can venture into the underground speakeasy Prohibition at 548 Fifth Avenue to get a taste of the “Gentleman of Crime.” The Penguin-inspired drink is whiskey-based with flavors of lemon and ube.
