The Senate Judiciary Committee has launched an investigation into potential violations of court orders by the Trump administration regarding deportation flights. Whistleblower Erez Reuveni alleged that Principal Deputy Attorney General Emil Bove encouraged officials to disregard judicial rulings under the Alien Enemies Act. The probe focuses on claims that senior Department of Justice (DOJ) officials supported bypassing court orders to deport migrants.

The investigation has been triggered by a whistleblower complaint from Reuveni. Reuveni alleged that during a meeting in March, Bove suggested the department might need to be prepared to defy the courts in response to legal efforts aimed at blocking deportation flights.

Reuveni’s complaint claims that officials under Bove’s direction presented flawed legal arguments to justify their actions. U.S. District Court Judge James Boasberg had ordered an immediate halt to deportation flights, warning of possible judicial intervention. However, approximately 200 Venezuelan and Salvadoran individuals were still transported to the facility.

The investigation has also covered allegations concerning fast-track deportations ordered by U.S. District Court Judge Brian Murphy, who has imposed restrictions in March. DHS argued that its actions did not violate Murphy’s orders because it retained custody of the individuals involved.

The Senate Judiciary Committee has requested communications related to Kilmar Abrego Garcia, who was deported despite a court order preventing his removal. Reuveni’s efforts led to a ruling from Judge Paula Xinis that reinstated Abrego Garcia in the U.S., followed by a Supreme Court order for his return.
