Earthquake shakes South Carolina beaches Wednesday

An earthquake rattled the South Carolina coastal plain Wednesday morning. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 2.2 Magnitude earthquake shook Summerville, South Carolina at 9:57 a.m. The quake occurred at a depth of more than three miles underground. Summerville has nearly 52,000 residentsand is located approximately 25 miles northwest of Charleston.

By Friday morning, the USGS had received more than 130 reports from people who felt the earthquake, but no damage was reported.
