State of the relationship – Barack and Michelle Obama address ‘divorce’ rumours
Barack and Michelle Obama have finally addressed rumours that their relationship was on the rocks.
The Obamas’ relationship has been the subject of heavy rumours over the past few months, including that they were reportedly going to divorce, after Michelle wasn’t at recent events including the second inauguration of Donald Trump and Jimmy Carter’s funeral.
However, the former US President appeared as a guest on his wife and her brother Craig Robinson’s podcast IMO, with Craig joking ‘you guys like each other?’ before Michelle finally addressed ‘the rumour mill.’

‘She took me back!’ Barack joked, adding ‘it was touch and go for a while,’ with Michelle cheekily adding that it’s nice to be in the same room as her husband, as ‘when we aren’t, folks think we’re divorced.’
Despite the rumours, Michelle revealed that it was actually quite the contrary over the past three decades of their marriage; telling her brother ‘There hasn’t been one moment in our marriage where I thought about quitting my man. And we’ve had some really hard times.
‘So we had a lot of fun times, a lot of adventures, and I have become a better person because of the man I’m married to.’

Barack admitted that he wasn’t aware of such rumours, telling his wife and brother in law ‘These are the kinds of things that I just miss, right? So I don’t even know this stuff’s going on. And then somebody will mention it to me and I’m all like “what are you talking about?”
Craig even revealed that he was asked about the rumours surrounding his family, when a woman approached him for a photo in Wichita, Kansas; explaining ‘This woman came up to me and she was so nice, she’s like “can I have a picture?”
‘You get the side hug, and she’s like “what did he [Barack] do?”‘ with Craig jokingly replying to her ‘what makes you think he messed up?’

Michelle previously rubbished rumours that her and Barack’s marriage was on the rocks, telling Steven Bartlett on the Diary of a CEO podcast ‘If I were having problems with my husband, everybody would know about it.’
The couple met while working at their law firm Sidley Austin LLP, before marrying in 1992. They share two daughters together in Malia and Sasha, who were born in 1998 and 2001 respectively.
