Rep. Mark Green speaks at his watch party

Rep. Mark Green (R-TN) has announced he will resign from Congress on July 20, reducing the Republican House majority to 219-212. His departure poses a significant challenge for Republicans as they try to advance President Trump’s budget reconciliation bill amid the tightened majority. Meanwhile, a competitive race is already underway to fill Green’s vacant seat, with both parties eager to secure this crucial district.

The special election will attract considerable attention as it unfolds in a solidly Republican district. U.S. House District 7 encompasses parts of Nashville/Davidson County, Williamson County, and extends to the Kentucky and Alabama borders.
