Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) has warned that the national debt could increase by $26 trillion over the next decade if spending is not controlled. He highlighted the Senate’s passage of a rescissions package that has cut $9 billion regarding foreign aid and public media. The measure passed narrowly by a 51–48 vote, marking a win for the Trump administration’s efforts to rein in federal spending.

Tuberville stated, “If we stay status quo for the next 10 years, we'll spend $26 trillion more. And add that to this $37 trillion in debt we're already in, and it will be over with.”

Tuberville added, “So much fraud up here and corruption. It’s amazing, but they don’t want to cut anything. And we’ve had one, I think maybe 25 years ago, there was one.”

The measure advanced to the House after the Senate's "vote-a-rama" removed a $400 million cut to PEPFAR. It also preserved funding for agriculture and aid to vulnerable countries.
