Unique buffet restaurant coming to former Red Lobster building in Tyler
The void left by the closure of Red Lobster in Tyler is set to be filled soon.
According to city of Tyler permit filings, El Chino Buffet will occupy the former sea food chain, located at 1500 W Southwest Loop 323. The Tyler location closed in May 2024 along with many other locations across the nation. A remodel renovation permit was approved on March 20, and a demolition permit was approved May 6.
Owner and manager Jimmy Lu said El Chino Buffet will serve Mexican and Chinese food in a buffet style. Lu is also the owner of Ohayo Sushi, the restaurant at the former Traditions Restaurant on South Broadway Ave.
Lu said the plan is to make changes on the inside of the building, while the exterior of the former Red Lobster will remain similar. He said he's looking forward to bringing a different style of food to the area.
The plan is for El Chino Buffet to open in late summer.
