70-year-old man killed in house fire southwest of Tyler

SMITH COUNTY, Texas (KLTV) - A house fire turned deadly Tuesday night as numerous firefighters and law enforcement officers worked to put it out.

The fire was in the 11500 block of Pecanridge Drive.

A 70-year-old man who lived alone died. No foul play is suspected.

Smith County Fire Marshal, Smith County Sheriff’s Office, Smith County ESD 2, Bullard, Chapel Hill and Red Springs Fire departments were among those at the scene of a brick home that caught on fire around 10:30 p.m.

Reports of fire shooting through the roof and vehicles there burning, as well, came in soon after.

The burning home is on Pecanridge Drive.

The fire was brought under control by 11:25 p.m. and deemed a total loss.

Smith County Deputy Fire Marshal Barron Wedgeworth said the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
