McDonald’s unveils 5 new menu items to be tested in the US

We know there is absolutely nothing better than a tried-and-tested crispy coke and some salty McDonald's fries — however, a new menu is always an exciting event. From different flavoured McFlurrys (if the machine works) to partnering with different toy franchises, McDonald's knows how to roll out a new menu. And this time they're coming for Starbucks again, with the release of a range of new drinks in the US inspired by their spin-off chain CosMc's (Picture: Getty Images)
What is CosMc's?

CosMc's was a venture for McDonald's launched in 2023 to compete with Starbucks (it had a retro-futuristic theme and customizable drinks) but it announced in May that all locations would close after just a year-and-a-half. Now, McDonald's has announced it is about to 'enter the next chapter of our beverage journey' by bringing the insight from CosMc's to more than 500 McDonald's locations. Swipe to find out what exactly what will be on offer (a hint from McDonald's: they'll be 'out-of-this-world')... (Picture: Getty)
1. Popping Tropic Refresher

A perfect fruity drink for a hot day, this Popping Tropic Refresher combines your favourite tropical flavours with popping boba - a bit of a dupe for the Starbucks Refresha series (Picture: McDonald's)
2. Toasted Vanilla Frappé

As these drinks are set to drop at the beginning of September, this might be what you reach for as we inch closer to fall - a toasty, warm vanilla frappé with plenty of whipped cream on top (Picture: McDonald's)
3. Sprite Lunar Splash

The Sprite Lunar Splash has lemon-lime soda and looks quite similar to the CosMc's Sprite Moonsplash - a Sprite with sweet vanilla flavours, added citrus, dried blueberries and a lemon wheel. Either way, if it ends up being a new drink completely, it still looks delicious (Picture: McDonald's)
4. Strawberry Watermelon Refresher

This Strawberry Watermelon Refresher has all the best fruit flavours - a blend of strawberries, watermelon and a whisper of lemon that makes it a lot more refreshing than the stagnant water in your Stanley (Picture: McDonald's)
5. Creamy Vanilla Cold Brew

Finally, no line up would be complete without a cold brew. The Vanilla Cold Brew was part of the original CosMc's line-up - so if it was a favourite for you, get down your local drive-thru this September (Picture: McDonald's)
When and where will they be available?

The new drinks menu will be rolled out at more than 500 US restaurants across Wisconsin, Colorado and the surrounding areas from Tuesday, September 2. And the good news is it could quickly spread across the nation with McDonald's saying: 'This test will help us understand what works here in the US – from operations to guest excitement – so we can learn and then scale smartly and quickly' (Picture: Getty Images)

Chief Customer Experience and Marketing Officer Alyssa Buetikofer said: 'We’re seeing real momentum in beverages, with more people – especially our Gen Z fans – turning to cold, flavorful drinks as a go-to treat. It’s a great opportunity for us to meet our US customers’ evolving tastes and show up in new moments, like afternoon refreshment or snack breaks' (Picture: Getty Images)
