Mike Pence ramps up Trump disapproval with 13 words slamming overseas trip
Trump's comments come as the president was slammed for holding a North Korea-style military parade for his birthday in June.
Former Vice President Mike Pence slammed his former boss, Donald Trump, saying, "I’ve never been a fan of American presidents criticizing America on foreign soil" after Trump seemed to slam American foreign policy while visiting the Middle East last week. According to Pence, it was a betrayal of American Service members.
Trump made the comment about the West's intervention from “so-called nation-builders, neo-cons, or liberal non-profits” during a speech he made in Saudi Arabia during his trip last week. During an appearance on NBC's Meet the Press, Pence lashed out against his former running mate.
“I’ve never been a fan of American presidents criticizing America on foreign soil,” Pence said. “And to have the president in Saudi Arabia questioning America’s global war on terror, and describing it as nation-building and interventionist, I thought was a disservice to generations of Americans who wore the uniform and who took the fight to our enemy, you know, in Afghanistan and in Iraq.”

“And particularly giving that speech in Saudi Arabia, where 15 of the 19 9/11 hijackers hailed from, not including Osama bin Laden, I thought was unfortunate,” he continued. Trump's comments come as the president was slammed for holding a North Korea-style military parade for his birthday in June.
During an interview on Meet the Press, the president touted that the parade, which would coincide with his birthday on June 14, would allegedly cost between $25 and $45 million. According to the president, the cost was "peanuts" despite the alarm from taxpayers.

Earlier this month, Trump affirmed plans to hold the military spectacle saying that "we're going to have a big, beautiful parade." The president added that the occasion has nothing to do with his birthday. In response, Trump stated that the cost would be "peanuts compared to the value of doing it."
"We have the greatest missiles in the world. We have the greatest submarines in the world. We have the greatest army tanks in the world. We have the greatest weapons in the world. And we're going to celebrate it," he told NBC News. The entire festival, including the activities leading up to the procession, is included in the estimated cost.

According to a spokeswoman, the entire festival would include over 100 vehicles and thousands of soldiers who will be housed in federal facilities and are expected to join the parade. It may also involve 50 helicopters.
A Defense official revealed that Abrams tanks will also be on display, and the military intends to place metal plates on Washington's streets to prevent the 120,000-pound armored vehicles from causing pavement damage. Despite landing on Trump's 79th birthday, the parade is said to commemorate the Army's 250th anniversary celebrations.

White House spokesperson Anna Kelly said the expense will be "shared by the Department of the Army and the U.S. Semiquincentennial Commission." She said, "President Trump will commemorate the United States Army's birthday with a military parade that honors all who served since our great nation was founded 250 years ago."
"There is no event grand enough to adequately capture our gratitude for the millions of heroes who laid down their lives defending our freedom," Kelly added about the parade. "But this parade will be a fitting tribute to the service, sacrifice, and selflessness of all who have worn the uniform."
