McDonald’s makes huge change to Monopoly for first time in 20 years

It’s finally that time of year again Maccies fans – Monopoly is returning to McDonald’s UK. The fast food chain’s version of the classic game will be back from September 10, but this year there’ll be a few changes. For the first time in its 20-year history, Monopoly stickers will be available on all hot McCafe drinks as well as the Breakfast Wrap (£4.39). This means you’ll be able to win prizes with your breakfast, as well as lunch or dinner with items from the main menu (full list below). If this weren’t exciting enough, the menu will also be switching up to celebrate the return of Monopoly, with several beloved fan-favourites making a comeback and two brand new treats to try (Picture: Getty Images/McDonald's UK)

The Philly Cheese Stack (£6.29) will be joining the line-up once again from September 10. This burger, which features two beef patties, cheese sauce, two cheese slices as well as grilled and crispy onions and pickles in a toasted bun, often sends McDonald’s fans wild and was previously hailed as ‘sensational’ and ‘the best’. The Chicken Big Mac (£5.69) is also coming back, combining two chicken patties, a slice of cheese, lettuce, pickles and that iconic sauce. And if you’ve been missing them, the wait is over as Mozzarella Dippers (£2.59) are returning too (Picture: McDonald's UK)

Those who want to try something different are in luck as McDonald’s is introducing a brand new Caramel Loaded McFlurry (£2.49 for a regular). Classic soft dairy ice cream is covered with caramel cubes, milk chocolate chips and white chocolate coated shortbread pieces, then drizzled in caramel sauce to create this dessert (Picture: McDonald's UK)

And finally, coffee addicts are being treated to a new seasonal drink, as a Honeycomb Latte (£2.89 for a regular) is joining the McCafe menu. The sweet beverage contains honeycomb syrup and is topped with whipped cream and a sprinkle of honeycomb pieces. As always, these new and returning menu items will only be available at McDonald’s for six weeks once they’ve launched (Picture: McDonald's UK)

And the switching of the menu means we’ll soon have to say goodbye to several products that are currently available, including the Jaffa Cake McFlurry, the Milky Way McFlurry, Chilli Cheese Bites, Spicy Chicken McNuggets, The Steakhouse Stack, The Big Tasty and The Big Tasty with Bacon. The final day to get your hands on these will be September 9 (Picture: Getty Images)

What do the new McDonald’s items taste like? As Metro’s specialist food writer, I got an exclusive first try of the Loaded Caramel McFlurry and the Honeycomb Latte at McDonald’s HQ in London. If you’ve got a sweet tooth, you’re going to love the new McFlurry. The toppings work so well together, they’re a match made in heaven and each spoonful is pure decadence. It’s safe to say, I’m a fan. As for the Honeycomb Latte, I’m not a big coffee drinker, but this has just the right level of sweet syrup and bitter coffee to suit my taste buds. I’m not sure it’s something I’d want to start my day with, but as a midday or mid-afternoon pick-me-up, this would work a treat (Picture: Getty Images)

How long is Monopoly running at McDonald’s for? Monopoly first launched at McDonald’s UK in 2005 and has been a staple at the fast food chain for the last 20 years. When it returns in 2025, the game will be start running from 5am on September 10 and end at 23:59pm on October 21. The full prize list for this year is still to be revealed, but it will include instant win food prizes, cash and merch (Picture: Maureen McLean/REX/Shutterstock)
