For Iowans who love to roll tide roll, or just those interested in a sandy beach vacation, you're in luck. Allegiant Air announced a new flight route from the Des Moines airport to Gulf Shores, Alabama.

The new route will launch in fall 2025 and offer introductory one-way fares as low as $59.

"This expansion caters to passengers and communities we feel have been overlooked by other carriers," said Drew Wells, Allegiant’s chief commercial officer.

This flight marks the first time in the airport's history that travelers will be able to fly directly from Des Moines to Alabama and a record-breaking 34th non-stop route. It is also the fifth new route announced in 2025.

When does Allegiant's Gulf Shores flight come to Des Moines?

The new flight will be offered beginning Oct. 3, 2025.

Travelers will be able to fly between Des Moines and Gulf Shores on Mondays and Fridays, with extra dates added around Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day.

“We are thrilled to see Gulf Shores added to DSM’s nonstop route map,” said Brian Mulcahy, executive director of Des Moines International Airport.

The route offers more convenient service to a popular destination, he said. This is a milestone for Gulf Shores, too, according to a news release. The airport, which is the city's first commercial airport, opened on May 21.

Is Allegiant adding any other new flight routes?

The announcement came as part of a series of new routes Allegiant is launching from Alabama, Florida and Tennessee.

Allegiant is adding a new flight from Florida's Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport to South Bend, Indiana, starting on Aug. 29.

From McGhee Tyson Airport in Knoxville, Tennessee, Allegiant is adding two new routes. One will service Memphis, Tennessee, beginning Sept. 4 and the other will serve Key West, Florida, beginning Oct. 3.

In addition to Des Moines, Allegiant is also adding a flight to the Gulf Shores from Appleton, Wisconsin, beginning Oct. 3.

Allegiant recently added new flights from Des Moines to Boston and Jacksonville, Florida. The carrier also discontinued its seasonal flight to Los Angeles.
